Because the GOP has gone stark raving bonkers and the country has been harmed as a a result. GOP cancel culture has been purging the sensible Republicans like Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist from its ranks because they refuse to kiss the ring of their new cult leadership. Jeb was actually a really good center right governor for the state who excelled in crisis mode during the hurricanes of 04-05 and kept the state from looking like New Orleans during Katrina.

I highly doubt they pull their ships.

They almost can't.....they just built a new terminal in Miami....and other than the feeders...Miami/Ft Lauderdale/W Palm/Orlando....there's no place for them to go

Norwegian is about the smallest...Carnival the largest by far....if Norwegian pulled out...Carnival would take over their facilities and routes over night...and Norwegian would lose all that permanently

...plus the fact..even if they did....there's no terminals sitting empty for them to move to....they would have to invent dock space somewhere...which means they would have to take off hour start and stop times

Good news for Norwegian then - Carnival, also, will have to insist all passengers are vaccinated.

Will FL fight that, as well? It will be a federal mandate - and also, Carnival will be in the same "boat" (sorry) as the others - unless all of their ports of call are domestic, the vaccine will be required at most of them.

Insurance drives a lot of decisions in Big Travel, and the insurance companies are likely to be even less enthused about writing policies for cruise companies not following CDC guidelines on covid than they are for tour companies that use airlines on the EU’s unsafe operations blacklist. (A lot of third countries and private companies use those kinds of EU/USA guidance products because they are seen as reliable and thorough and it’s cost effective to rely on that rather than writing their own standards)

I ask this as someone who hates "woke-ism": How is wanting customers on your ships to be vaccinated woke? Remember the Diamond Princess fiasco? Who would want a similar PR nightmare on one of their boats?

So I'll repeat this for you and all the other people in the back row who weren't paying attention the first time:

There are countries, presently, that will not *allow* anyone into their countries, unless they can show proof of vaccination or immunity to COVID-19.

Norwegian Cruise Lines sails to many of those countries.

They will not be ALLOWED to sail to those countries, if they leave FROM Florida, as long as there is any kind of regulation forbidding them to require proof of vaccine or immunity.

Presently, desantis is proclaiming that cruise lines are not ALLOWED to require proof of vaccination/immunity.

And so - NCL, being a profitable corporation, will have to cancel all cruises to those countries that require vaccines - OR - they will have to seek port in another state for departure and return.

I dont recall Norrwegian claiming permanent decision on leaving Florida. Just simply leaving Florida ports over a irresponsible policy during a Global Health Crisis, which will eventually pass. All these ships are still a year or more out from being in service anyway, it would be more confusing and harmful to change long term plans with vaccines still ongoing, Policies can change overnight. This way they can move forward with advanced bookings and see how things unfold.

Its smarter business wise to refund cancelled cruise bookings or offer credit than slash prices to fill cabins on a shorter window of time.

Does Norwegian want to sail out of Florida? Definitely yes.

Can they (and the industry) afford a covid outbreak on a ship within weeks of the restart of cruising? No.

Are they happy with the position DeSantis is putting them in with his policies that are not friendly to their business sector at this point? Definitely not.
