info on hudson, florida
Can anyone give us some info on Hudson, Forida? What are the schools like? Crime? What is the status of real estate in terms of the boom or bust? The pictures I saw online look beautiful. We are looking to relocate from Michigan. Once we decide on an area, we plan on flying down for a few days to look around. Thank you and have a great New Year!!!

There are alot of older people in Hudson. You can find a nice home in a gated community or choose to live on the outskirts of the town. The beach is not far away either. The houses do tend to be on top of each other, so if you are looking for privacy you may need to search a bit to find the right home.

I live about 10 miles from Hudson, and you could do better. Its not a bad area and Hudson beach is nice but very small. Just for your info...medical care here is terrible. YOu can do much better in the tampa area or more south. Hudson has no real town so you have to shop on the main highway RT 19. Be very careful if you are buying, there are plenty of builders, and other services to take advantage of you. Dont get me wrong I love FLorida, but after 4 years in this area, I am looking to move either to the east side or Orlando area.

I live in Hudson for the last 30+ years. The schools are fine. The shopping and restaurants are building up like crazy. The taxes and Home insurance have sky rocketed. The homes are dropping in price due to the insurance, people are trying to get out. Mostly older folks on a fixed income. I have two children that attend the schools and never had a problem. Depending on the neighbor you are looking at I can give you more information.

This information is provided by City-Data there is more just Google Husdon Florida.
I live in New Port Richey which is just a few miles from Hudson. If I were moving to Florida for the first time, Hudson would not be the location I choose. Wages are very low in Pasco County and it is estimated that over 80,000 people commute 2 to 4 hours a day for work in Pinellas and Hernando County. Traffic on US 19 is a nightmare!!! It was voted the worst and deadliest highway in the entire USA!
Another big and growing problem in Pasco (Hudson) is the gang activity. In our local newspaper (Pasco Times) the Sunday crime report is now a half a page long at MINIMUM!
I loved growing up here but we are searching to leave. It is no where I am willing to raise my child! Also check out all the registered sex offenders, it's shocking!!!
Median resident age: 57.2 years
Median household income: $33,177
Hispanic race population percentage significantly below state average.
Median age significantly above state average.
Foreign-born population percentage above state average.
Renting percentage below state average.
House age significantly below state average.
Number of college students below state average.
Percentage of population with a bachelor's degree or higher below state average.

You have me worried. Here I was hoping to escape from the idea of crime. There's lots of it in Saginaw, MI the closest big town 10 miles from us. We have just committed $$$ to rent a trailer in Hudson on a canal. The owner (who doesn't live in Hudson) has painted a grand picture. Don't they all? It's located at 7027 Fair Ln., Hudson. It looks peaceful, but remote. Husband thinks he can fish, but I don't think he knows if his catch will be edible. LOL
I understand Hudson Beach is to sit in the car and watch the sun go down. Will I have to get in heavy traffic to get to a nice beach, and how far will it be? I hope you will reply to this preferably via email. bamaginny@aol.com
Thank you.

Freeland, you had me curious as to whether the crime would actually be higher or lower in Hudson then in Saginaw. So, I did a Sperling's comparison on the two cities. Here is how they compare:
Violent Crime~National Average~3~ Hudson~3~Saginaw~8
Property Crime~National Average~3~Hudson~2~Saginaw~7
So it appears that you've made a good choice in moving to Hudson. Your crime rate will be about a third as high as it is in Mich.

Thanks for the stats. I picked up on Sunshine's reference to "gang activity". Most of Saginaw's crime is drive-by shootings which are gang related. We live in a small neighboring community.

I have retired friends who built in Hudson approx. 4 miles from the beach. They love their neighbors but the only insurance on their home comes from the Florida taxpayers slush fund. There is virtually no shopping, few churches and lots of other negatives. Good Luck.
