Renting in North Florida (Panhandle area)
The ones wanting to buy our house want to take possession by Feb 5th. That's not going to happen we need more time but it is going to be soon either way. We are going to have to rent and want to get up in the panhandle for a while. I can't seem to find much on the net about rents up that way. Are there any good web sites for renting?
I figure we may rent for like 6 months or so and give ourselves time to decide what to do. We will probably explore outside the state a little as well. That is one nice thing about being more north. Living in south Florida is like being on an island the rest of the country is so far away. Starting to get excited and looking forward to it now.

What is your preference: Fort Walton Beach, Pcola, Destin, Navarre or Crestview?

The I-10 corridor west of Tallahassee maybe like the Chipley area. I have no interest in the coast.

I checked out Chipley recently. It's pretty small and very southern feeling. You couldn't pay me enough to live there. Nothing much is going on unless you're into rebel flags and such. You may as well move to Alabama.

What make you think that is not what I am looking for. I have lived for almost 50 years walking distance from the beach in Fort Lauderdale. Sitting on a dozen acres in a place with not much going on is exactly what I want.

MacGuy, have you tried sites like apartments.com or rent.com or move or for rent? Good luck to you in your move.

If you haven't already, one thing you might want to do is check out the classifieds of such newspapers as the Chipley Bugle, Panama City Herald, the Fort Walton Sun, our little Port St Joe Star, the Tallahassee Democrat. You can do this online with most of them.
Just for an example:
We are right on the coast (I know you don't want that) in a house that I would never want to own (too close to highway) paying $900 a month for a 3 bed 2 bath with swimming pool. Obviously inland, such as Wewahitchka or Howard Creek, is cheaper.
I've actually been hearing more and more about Chipley these days.

rentals
Craigslist seems to be a good resource to use to look for rentals to me.
Google craigslist and then click on Tallahassee, then 'apartments/housing' under Rentals. It may be for Tallahassee mostly, but surrounding areas usually show up under the major metro area.

Good suggestion, roaring-rox.
Turns out Craigslist has a Pensacola/Panhandle section:

Tallahassee/Panhandle Florida is more disconnected from the "Rest" of the country than South Florida, if you consider ease of travel by airplane and even by car (unless you're going to Georgia)... There's nothing but regional airports around here, where a trip to NYC from Palm Beach would cost you $150 on Jet Blue, you'll pay a lot more from Tallahassee to get to NYC. Jacksonville has a good airport, but it's 2.5 hours from Tallahassee. (For a 6AM flight you have to leave at around 2AM!!)
I'm moving South from here in about 5 months and can't wait to feel like i can go somewhere "else" with ease!!
BUT, as far as finding rental resources between Pensacola and Tallahassee, the best place to start is probably Rent.com, where you can hone in on a zip code, and as someone mentioned, craigslist.
