Yep! Not "quite" as many around here the last 2 weeks but still a crap load of them. It makes traffic bad when 25 percent of the trucks I see are out of town construction related. Home Depot is a zoo with them when I went yesterday. About 3 times busier compared to pre Ian.

A lot of them are roofing companies I see.

I'd say that's a huge reason everything is out of whack right now around me.

How long before most of these contractors are gone you think? I mean around us in the Venice, Punta Gorda area.

Here in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte had there been no Charley the damage would been a lot worse due to older buildings and weaker building codes. The newer buildings besides roof damage held up better.

And you have to pay for some of your classroom supplies out of pocket, because the things your kids are expected to buy, their parents can't afford. That's because your starting teacher self was assigned to work in a low-income neighborhood school, where all the teachers who haven't proven themselves get stuck.

But that's okay, because Florida standards for teachers are abysmal. Florida doesn't care if you are actually qualified to teach. As long as you can occupy those kids and as long as you don't tell them about anything they probably should learn about before they become adults, you're good to go.
Why do you just disappear when confronted with facts?

Because it was almost midnight and time for me to go to bed. And unlike some of you, I have an actual life that involves me not being logged into this forum 24/7.

... and what does that have to do with not addressing facts?

Governor Ron DeSantis Proposes Teachers’ Bill of Rights
~ Unprecedented Legislation to Empower Educators, Protect Teachers from Overreaching School Unions, and Raise Teacher Pay ~

Earlier this week, Governor Ron DeSantis announced an unprecedented legislative proposal to create a Teachers’ Bill of Rights. The proposal will empower educators to be leaders in their classrooms, enact paycheck protection, reduce terms for school board members from twelve to eight years, and invest another $1 billion in teacher pay.

“This is a huge package to increase teacher pay, support teacher empowerment and protect teachers’ paychecks by ensuring they have control over their hard-earned salary.”

just trying to keep you up-to-date on the facts. You're welcome.

A small minority in Florida. More so in the Orlando area and Broward (Lauderdale). Parents are very involved and this is attractive for the business community. Florida Ranked #1 in Nation for Parent Involvement in Education

FLA's strong education system attracts businesses, no doubt. Aside from being #1 in parental involvement...

FLA's #16 in prep education out of 50, & #1 in Higher Education, which employers look at a lot in making decisions on where to move their businesses.

FLA's starting teacher pay is $55k, & FLA's median income is $55,681, so even new Teachers are making a living wage.

Employers look at all of these things, before making a move. FLA's may not be #1 in education in every aspect, but they are above the midpoint in nearly all areas that I see reported.

I moved my business to Florida, & I saw the states education system as a plus...& the low taxes, & biz friendly environment. My biz taxes here are much lower than Georgia's.

Anyone taking potshots at FLA's attractiveness to new businesses, may have an axe to grind, that they're concealing.
