Actually, for me, living in FLorida drove my allergies nuts...had constant severe sinus pressure for most of the year...the only allergy meds that helped would make me so tired. Once I moved back up north, my allergy problems are much less severe--I can actually breathe and don't have constant sinus infections.

Florida is horrible for allergies. Pine pollen, mold & mildew (from the humidity) and various plants make for a breeding ground of allergens.

Depends on the type allergies. Overall, no, it is NOT good for people with a lot of allergies. I have a lot of them and I am a native; however I love it here so I just deal with it.

I have allergies, and if mold, mildew, or any pollens are in your list of allergens, this is for sure NOT a place to live. I get them up north too, but here it's year round allergies. If you get shots or take meds you should be ok.

I don't know about mold or mildew...we keep our house really clean. It's mostly dust and pollen i think. What about if you live near the beach?

we're in the Hudson Valley, NY, which is very bad for allergies (my dh and ds suffer) - but of course it's only seasonal. What's funny is our allergist was just saying she keeps in business very well up here - and if she were in florida, she'd not have as good a business. I don't really get that, considering the above posts...
(dh's are so bad in the spring, he throws up daily). Isn't it true that because in NY we have such a "growing season", it's worse during that time than it would be in florida. whereas in Florida, the growing season isn't as bad because the plants and such don't die off the way they do here so the blooms are less 'toxic'. (does that make any sense??)

What I mean by mold and mildew is, no matter how clean your house is, the air here is REALLY humid. It carries a lot of moisture. Mold grown on everything here, some of it you can't see, the spores are always there.
Living near the beach is the same as anywhere here. I live on the coast right now, it's no different from when I lived in Orlando. I still have allergies, my daughter too, she is constantly stuffy. When we were up in Mass. her nose was clearer, and so was mine. BUT, I have bad spring allergies, so for a month up there i am miserable.

It does make sense, but we have MANY different trees and flowers budding all throughout the year. Mold spores are the worst thing here for allergy sufferes like myself.
Trust me, you allergist knows not what she is saying, my clinic is FULL all the time when I go see my allergist, and allergies are as bad here and worse sometimes. The worst allergies of my life was when I lived in Central Florida, on a property that was full of OAK trees, I never had it worse in my life than when the were budding... I wanted to die...
