Florida insurance Q- HO tied to auto
I have State Farm homeowners insurance and a wind policy (not required). I also have my car insured with State Farm. I have just discovered that I can get the same auto coverage for almost half what I am paying now with another company.
With HO insurance being so hard to get, I don't want to risk losing my HO coverge by dropping the auto. But I seem to remember that State Farm was not insuring those who only had HO with them- they wanted the car and home business.
So, would it be penny-wise and pound foolish of my to change auto insurance companies- saving $400+ a year? If I drop the auto with State Farm, could they drop my homeowners?
And now I am wondering if I should get a quote on my HO from another company. I'm not in a flood zone, so maybe it would be worthwhile.

This is something you should ask your agent.

I'd check with your agent prior, because you may be getting a "multi-policy" discount. We sold our home in IL and moved to FL in 04. When we moved we did not buy a home, but transferred our auto insurance with State Farm to a local agent there. Mind you, we insured three vehicles, but three vehicles did NOT mean multi policy. Our car rates went through the roof, especially my teenage son's vehicle. We ended up taking out a very small medical policy for 54.00 semi-annual premium. When we took out this 2nd policy, which we really didn't want or need, but by taking out this additional policy, our sons car insurance dropped from 1300.00 every six months to 700.00. Our little 108.00 dollar per year policy made that big of difference in State Farm's eyes.....

Horace Mann dropped my HO's a few years ago, said they were reducing Fl policies, since then someone on this list stated that they were recently covered by Horace Mann and were wondering if having an annuity with them was connected. I called HM and they said it wasn't, and still said they weren't writing in Fl. Truthful answers not coming from insurance companies so keep treading carefully.

Best advise, you got to get the correct info from the agent. Now also check other companies for HOI...you loose nothing by asking....

Have you compared coverage and deductibles to make sure you're getting the same coverage with Company B?
