Neither realtors nor hairstylists should need a license in the first place. The real purpose of licensing is to enrich the lobbying group at the expense of the general public, not to ensure competence.

Cool Should a 63 hour class be all it takes to get a license to sell Real Estate in Fl?

So many people critisize agents and commisions without knowing what they really do. The class is not easy and relates to real estate law, learning what is allowed and what isn't. You work under a broker who has many many more hours of education. While some welcome paying the commision because they don't like getting called 24/7 including holidays, don't want to miss work to show their property, don't want to pay up front to advertise and the many reasons that people have listing agents, others think the commisions are "wasting money". There are many unseen services included in the commision. Realtors pay to use MLS. Yes a waitress can do it because she has people skills, a realtor without people skills is going to go hungry. One realtor doesn't necessarily get the full commision, often it's split four ways if there are two separate realtors (buyer and seller). The brokers usually get half. The agent assures the appointments for surveys, appraisals, inspections are made and know what to do if there's a glitch. My husband is a realtor and it bothers me to think so many people put them down without understanding the job. Some of the comments are cute but they sure don't reflect the accurate picture. Anyone can cut their own hair so why do you need a barber?

Real Estate Agents should be required to at least have a certain amount of college credits as do accountants. Especially in a state like Florida that does not require an attorney at Real Estate transactions it is very easy for a Realtor to over-step its boundries.

Well, realtors use a different deadly chemical but they both have the ability to inflict serious burns on people.

Is this the same in any other state?

Would the degree prevent the over-step its boundaries?

Honestly, true honesty is what is required on any person that is in this type of business and we have many that are honest. But this is like any other job, is to the person to hold their character to the highest standard.

If we read the news a degree was not the reason why CEO's in large companies do the illegal or unprofessional actions. Is all about values.

Do we need more oversight from GOV here? Something that Realtors need to evaluate. Do they have members that break the rules Yes, but this will be the smaller amount rather than the whole.

Can a Realtor tell us what happens to a Realtor that steps over the boundaries (rules, policies).

What is the check and balance for this profession?

Please don't judge all the Realtors the same way, the majority are true professionals....the exception is the problem....

Default I could have had my 40 hour course waived in NY

I had a Paralegal Degree which included taking an entire semester of Real Estate Law. My fault really, I never brought it up. I cannot speak for Florida, but in NY a para can sub for an attorney at a closing. Anyway, that 2 hour state licensing test was a piece of cake in comparison to my real estate law tests in college.

No, I never sold any RE. I went into education instead.
