Default Any nice beaches near Hernanco County or close by?

Hey all,
I wanted to go to a nice beach for father's day with my family and was wondering where to go. I didn't want it to be a mob meat market - just a nice family beach. Preferably on the gulf, as my kids would be afraid of big waves - they are all under 6. I know that Pine Island is near by, but I am still sceptible about going due to the fact that it was closed for a while because of the bacteria levels in the water. I don't mind traveling some distance, but I don't want to go 3 hours away either. Any sugggestions?

Pine Island does get crowded fast as does Rogers Park which is a small beach on the Weeki Wachee River.
Caladesi in Dunedin was voted the #1 beach in the country this year. It would be about an hour and 15 minutes or so to get there from Hernando and then you need to take a ferry over but it is worth it.

Default Hudson Beach

I also like Hudson beach, although not a huge beach, it is nice and there are picnic tables with shelter, at one time there used to be entertainment at Sam's right there on the beach. It beats traveling all the way down 19 to get to Clearwater.

caladesi beach sounds good, but I am sure it is going to be swamped.

Hundson beach might be a good idea. You said there are shelters and picnic tables. Any idea if there are grills?

My son's 2nd birthday lands on father's day this year so we were thinking of just doing a beach thing with the family and maybe bbq'g and cake at the end of the day. So I would need something with grills.

Because Caladesi is rather large and only accessible by ferry or your own boat it usually does not get crowded.
