Default Looking to Move to Florida

Hey All,

I am looking to move to a beach town in Florida and am in need of advice.

I want to move somewhere where I won't be in need of my car, a place that is close to the beach and arts/entertainment. I also want to go to bartending school and leave the corporate world behind me. I'm 28 so I would prefer a place that has a substantial late twenties to early forties crowd. Money isn't that big of an issue but I'm not seeking a super pricey area either.

Any suggestions that you have would be fantastic! I've been doing a lot of research the past couple months but I thought it would be great to get some advice on the boards here.

As other posters stated, South Beach is great option for you but transportation around the greater Miami area would be difficult without a car. Another option is Ft. Lauderdale. Without a car in WPB is not very doable. Jacksonville is extremely spread out. Living out at the beaches is pretty insular though. I know a family there that does most of their day to day stuff by bicycle. Despite having some "big" cities, Florida is very suburban. I don't know if it's the best place without transportation.

How about Islamorada, or Key West. Small enough to get around on a bike, or scooter.

I looked into Key West but I found it to be a bit pricey. Any suggestions about rentals there?

Maybe a little efficiency in a motel or a room for rent till you figure it out. I find it so hard to know what I am doing till I live in a place, and bars are EVERY WHERE down there. Island time 24/7. craigslist.com might have something, or check into a rental agency on line. Boca Chica Key is one key up from Key West. I do not know your budget, but you should be able to find something!
