homeowners insurance
I am shopping for homeowners insurance and received a good quote from american keystone insurance, but I have never heard of them before. Has anyone ever heard of them? I can go with Tower Hill which I have received good recommendations about, but would save a few hundred dollars by going with american keystone. I am just afraid to go with american keystone and then a hurricane hits and they go bankrupt or fail to pay. Maybe it is just me being paranoid. Does anyone have any info about homeowners insurance in florida especially american keystone? Thanks for your help.

I just checked on AMBest, which is an insurance rating company. Tower Hill is rated B, implications negative. A 'B' rating is usually not that good. An 'A', 'A+', or 'A++' are normally what would be required for an insurance bond for any public work. I am not an experienced insurance broker, so I would recommend that you speak to good reputable one. As always - buyer beware, but I'd check with them. I did not even see American Keystone listed.

The problem is that alot of the insurance companies in florida are not in AMbest yet because they are new. After the hurricanes many of the older companies left or stopped selling policies. American keystone is an A on demotech's ratings, but it seems everyone is an A on demotech. Do they have reputable rankings? I have to make a decision in the next few days. Any more imput?

Contact your state insurance comissioner to get information. Our insurance is through St. Johns, an Allstate umbrella company. They are A-rated. Ask really reputable realtors in the area you're considering, because they are likely to know good local insurance agents who work for good companies. Our insurance costs half of what it would have with Citizens, and it is a good company with good insurance.

American Keystone is a very small company
American Keystone might end up being one of the best florida homeowner insurance companies we have in the future. But as of right now they are new, small, and have no direct experience paying hurricance claims. I just checked out their buyers guide rating here:
Florida Homeowners Insurance - Home Insurance Buyers Guide
Tower Hill's buyers guide rating is a lot higher than American Keystones. I would spend the extra money for the piece of mind. Good luck!

There are many things that go into buying insurance not just the price and square footage of your home. Things such as age of the home, how close the home is to a fire hydrant or natural body of water, what style the roof is, etc.
Here's is a website where you can get a ballpark figure for your area. If you have a home picked out I would call a few local insurance agents. They can usually give you quote in a few hours.
Good luck with your move!
