Default Where to Live if work at Flagler Palm Coast

Greetings

I may be taking a position at Flagler in Palm Cost. I have read most of the information here. As I am not familiar with the geographical location of the hospital I am curious what recommendations would be for living. I am single, not a bar fly but looking to enjoy the florida life and making new friends. I have heard Ormond Beach mentioned. How far is Ormond, St Augustine or Jax?? It seems as FLagler is very family oriented

I mistakingly placed this blog as a response to someone elses statement - I was attempting to learn how to start a new thread and here I am

Florida Hospital/Flagler is in the southern part of Flagler County on State Rd 100. There are many rentals in Flagler County if you wish to stay local. Yes, the county is family oriented but also very diverse in age. Flagler Beach is a fun beach area with some decent restaurants and bars. Lots of people ride the bicycles to get around there. Not sure how the rentals are there though. There are quite a few condo rentals not too far from the hospital on SR 100 that would save you on gas $$ and give you some amenities like a pool, gym etc...

Ormond Beach is a nice town to the south in Volusia County and closer to Daytona Beach. The drive isn't too far depending on where you plan to live there. I would make a trip here and check things out before making final decisions. St. Augustine would be much further to the north so unless you had a car that got great gas mileage I personally would not want to go that route. Not at $4.00 a gallon. Good Luck!

thanks keysdreamer
I do plan on coming down for a look I just wanted some information from someone who lives there so I would know where to start. It is hard when you have a limited short time to know where to look. Information on these threads I almost decided to pull out as I am trying to find balance in life and not focus on work, then I read about Flagler Beach and Ormond. The last thing I need to do is to move somewhere where there is no outlet to meet poeople or enjoy the life
Thanks again

KD gave you good info. Also the closer you are to work the less time on the road, less gas $$ and more time you will have to enjoy the great life here and meet new people. Don't let family friendly scare you away. Folks of all different ages live here. Daytona & St. Aug are fantastic towns with lots of great restaurants and fun places but unfortunately too far for daily commuting unless you get 35-40mpg. Great for weekend visits though. Soon we'll have lots of stores here so our major shopping will now be more localized and will help all living here. Good luck in your search and hopefully some of the other PC residents on C-D will also answer your questions.

If you can afford to buy a home right now, it is definitely a buyers market. You can buy a home now for $160,000 that would have been over $250,000 not to long ago. The market here is starting to turn around so it would be a good time to buy. A nice area near the hospital is Cypress Knoll. Would only take you less than 10 minutes to get to work.

Jacksonville would be too far of a commute - way too far.

South St. Augustine - Crescent Beach, for example - might work for you. Crescent Beach is kind of quiet, sleepy and beachy, but very nice and if you lived there, you'd have good access to the nightlife of the beach and downtown St. Augustine. There are some nice condo rentals in Crescent Beach.

There are some condos a hop, skip & a jump from the hospital for around $800, Palm Pointe. Both are almost at the intersection of state road 100 & interstate 95. Flagler Beach is 3 miles east of that intersection. Ormond is about 20 minutes south. The new Town Center is about 2 miles west.

You could find something less expensive beachside & Flagler Beach is a friendly little town.

There are condos & duplexes for rent in Palm Coast, but it's more family & retiree oriented. (A single friend who's a nurse in St. Aug bought a condo in PC and hated it.)

St. Augustine is wonderful, but it would be a 40 minute commute.

The place to look for rentals is the Pennysaver. You can check it out online or pick one up free when you get here.

I'm from Ormond, lived in Flagler Beach for 10 years & now live in Bunnell ("Mayberry!",) so I'm pretty familiar with the area.

Good luck to you!

Thank you every one all the information it is much appreciated. I agree about the time on the road and driving - I truly just wanted some feedback as the ? for me was if there were avenues to meet new friends and it sounds as though there is. My interview is this Thursday - July 3rd. I am visitng a good friend in Jax at the moment and took a test drive around to the hospital and through Flagler Beach it seems like a nice liitle area.
Bk thank for the website if all works out I will check out the other website you listed.
