Murder is everywhere. Let's just keep glorifying violence in our young kids in the form of TV and video games.

Our State Attorney's office and judicial system is a joke. People only do time here if there are charged federal or if they actually kill someone. I almost forgot, or if you are a cop.

If you talk to a "bad" kid they will quote the law back to you. They know what they are doing many times. It is almost like their career choice along with the possible draw backs. One kid actually rationalized it by saying, "Hay, if I was working construction I could get killed". Once a person has that attitude there is no way to deal with them, they are making a conscious choice. It is better, at least in their way of thinking, then getting a job. That is why you can't stop it. I know drug dealers and I know why they do what they do. Like everybody in society, they do it for money and the rewards can be great. Once you understand that you know it can not be stopped.

Maybe it can't be stopped, but a big wrench could be thrown into their operation. The problem is after they get booked into the jail nothing happens to them. There is absolutely no justice.

The Florida crime scares me. Your posts address the fact we need to do something about escalating crime and murders. I dont want to stay in Florida even if I had the money, my safety comes first. I would in fact like to move my parents out as well for their safety.

strange,I live in Miami and while any metro area will have its share,I don't see there being a crime wave here.

I feel quite safe in my hood,a middle class area. The ghetto, yeah that can be scary.

Ha!Things I hear about Memphis and NYC makes Miami and Fl look good in comparison.

182 holdups in a year and all by people in black masks? In Bradenton? Incredible! In fact, unbelievable!

Also, I haven't seen one person in this thread post anything that will substantiate the claims about the murder rate. I'd like to see the data, from "city after city", before I get alarmed. I certainly haven't seen anything where I live that would frighten me or cause me to rush to any decisions...

Take a look....
This is the US state standings Florida #7 in 2005 was # 6:

Florida trend up to 2005

Crime rates for cities with populations greater than 250,000 in 2005
Rank State City Population Burglary Theft Vehicle Arson Property Total Rape Robbery Assault Murders Violent Total Murder Rate
24 --- Florida---- Miami--- 388,295 ----- 5,377---- -13,930 ----4,014 ---- --143 -- 23,321 62 -2,019--- 3,999 - 54--- 6,134 --- 13.9

7 DAYS, 7 DEATHS

Broward County, after a 50 percent jump in homicides from 2005 to 2006, started the new year with seven killings in seven days.

Palm Beach County, after 101 murders in 2006, up 26 percent, began 2007 with a horrifying New Year's Day drive-by shooting in Riviera Beach. Thirty-seven shots were fired. Five adults were wounded. Eight-month-old Tavares Carter Jr., strapped in his car seat, became the county's first 2007 homicide.

If I'm reading that correctly, there were 388, 241 people in Miami who were NOT murdered.

While I didn't see total population figures in the Jacksonville link, according to the figures presented there, for every 100,000 people in the city, 99,988.6 were not murdered. A bit of math indicates there were around 800,000 people in Jacksonville not murdered.

I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the 54 murdered people in Miami, or the 91 in Jacksonville, were involved in activities or circumstances that had a direct bearing on their demise.

I remain less than frightened.

city after city, officials who hoped a 2005 spike in homicides had been a one-year aberration cringed at the numbers for 2006. Police chiefs and sheriffs, who took too much credit when homicide rates were declining, now find themselves catching hell.

Sunday's editorial in the Orlando Sentinel went after the local sheriff: 'Decrying the `culture of violence,' as Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary does, is fine. But is he doing enough about it? After all, this isn't new. A record murder rate was set in 2005, only to be broken in 2006 with 64 murders.''

Those record 64 murders in unincorporated Orange County were in addition to the 49 killings in the city of Orlando. On Jan. 2, four homicides in one day, another record for Orange County, signaled that 2007 could be even bloodier.
I'm waiting for the report that will say " Micky & Minnie Mouse will be moving this year to a safe area in Tenn.
