Drivers - Keep to the Right !!!!
I would like to start a "Keep to the Right" Campaign.
Haven't we all seen enough drivers on the highway who insist on driving in the left lane? They could be going under the speed limit, at the speed limit, whatever. They also like to drive side by side with the driver in the right lane.
Now we all can complain about the zig zaggers but IF drivers kept to the right it would INCREASE passing on the left! What a concept.
Now we can also complain about the around town driver who is taking a left 5 miles up so they also get in the left lane and chug along at 25 mph but that is another issue.

I agree. The simple rule should be that if you are not passing the person to your right, you should be behind him.

Thank you for this informative thread, which is unique to Florida drivers...
I'd like to suggest a "The World Does Not Revolve Around You" campaign. The first tenant of this campaign is that most people drive with their best judgment and skill, and have no knowledge of your requirements for their lives.
The second tenant is that tolerance is a hallmark of civilized people....Do Unto Others...What if the "slow driver" was your grandmother?

I agree with the OP, I see your in Venice. I am in Fort Myers, I had to go to Tampa last week (actually went over Manatee bridge southbound an hour before the big wreck) and know what your talking about. It's restrictor plate racing in the left lane you get that one person that wants to go the speed limit in the left lane. Sorry that lane is for passing(not for going the speed limit) they don't move over and cause a big backup. What's with these fools in a driving rain without headlights on but they will put they're flashers on. Those are called emergency flashers you put them on when you are disabled, not when your to afraid to drive in the the rain. If it's an emergency to you get the heck off the road so those of us that know to drive through the storm can get on our way. Dang I better stop I could go on.

One of my biggest pet peeves.
"Drive on the right, pass on the left". If only more people would stick to that mantra.

I bow to your high intelligence....... It isn't about me by the way. It's about safe driving.
My great aunt drove until she was in her 90's. Just to the bank and store. She didn't travel enough miles to drive in left lane.
I'm essentially talking about highway driving. If driver A is going 68 in the left lane and driver B is going 69 in the right lane it should be at least good manners to just get in the "traveling" lane. At least that's what I was taught. Left lane = Passing, right lane = traveling (You still with me?).
I see way too many rolling road blocks. It makes the younger drivers try to find ways to drive in the breakdown lane and even the grass (I've seen it).
I also see drivers who will jam in front of you even if there is only a car length plus a foot in front of you. No excuse for poor driving BUT some of it is caused by drivers who refuse to yield. I don't remember having this problem up north (I know....one of those when I was back north stories....seesh).
The other day an old dude on his new 35 mph scooter cut me off as he did his "Florida lane change". He pulled out onto a 2 lane road and crossed all lanes to get to his turn....about 50 ft in front of me (I was traveling the speed limit).
Anyway, I didn't want to digress into old drivers/left lane/around town driving. Not much ya can do about that. I'm just talking about the highway.

Ah - one of my favorite topics - driving in Florida. Today's drivers, who receive no driver's ed, do not know that the left lane is for passing. And get this, I have seen driving instructors here - I mean right here in south Florida instruct their students to stay in the left lane!!! Plus if you are behind a motorist who is going 45 in the left (passing lane) and you flash your lights, they get totally torked off because you have the audacity to flash your lights at them!!! Oh, and before I forget - the cops aren't much better.
Sorry didn't mean to rant :-)

REPLY: Drivers who stay in the left lane and who do not turn left or are not passing cars, should be ticketed. Ive travelled all over this country by car and the worse offenders are in the chicagoland area of incredible proportion. It often makes it impossible for a person in the right hand lane who wants to go left in awhile , to be able to get over into the lefthand lane . Ive never seen a Driver ticketed for staying in the lefthand lane and I wish that would change.

I completely agree! I told my husband I may invest in a sign with a gigantic arrow pointing to get the heck over! It slows everyone down and causes more chance for an accident when you have to pass them on the right. I have never seen so many offenders until I came here to Florida!
