One problem is that the state of Florida is becoming so overdeveloped and overpopulated. Our natural species who have lived here since the beginning of time are being run out of their natural habitats. With new development, especially in the wetlands, retention ponds are built and that brings alligators. People feed the alligators which is a HUGE mistake. The alligators lose their fear of humans, which result in the attacks. This time of year is mating season, so the gators are out and about! There is really no reason to fear these creatures. I kayak all the time on the rivers of Florida. I see alligators a lot, but they are usually on the banks of the river, not hunting humans. If you play golf in Florida, you will see alligators from time to time. The best advice I can give is keep your distance and don't feed them.

Yeah...people when they transplant themselves here should learn about Florida's natural habitat & learn to live amongst them. If they come down & start living, say...a big city type of living that has nothing to do with where they came from. Then you are in trouble & of course the gator or croc, too. It' all common sense, really.

Can anybody remember what an "alligator pear" is....?

Cool Well... Obviously...

Okay. There is a simple answer to this.
So first off, naturally, gators would be scared of humans.
People feed the gators. So eventually over time, the gators get used to people & dont associate people with danger. They associate people with food. So the gators are friendly with the people. & the gators will walk up to the people. People dont have food, the gators eat them.

See. Simple. Huh?

Default harvest of the gators...Miami Herald report..

For those concerned of the gator situation...well, something is about to happen - quicker than I thought.
Go to the Miami Herald..and in their search engine type: harvest of the gators - then click & read. It came out yesterday Sunday, 6-11 so there's only 1 week to download for free.
