My husband and I lived in FL (Orlando) over 10 years ago and are considering moving back but are not very familar with it anymore. Now that we have kids (5 and 7) we are looking for recommendations for cities that are family-friendly (safe, decent schools, etc). We prefer central Florida. Are there any nice places to raise kids? I'm sure there are but I do hear a lot of Florida bashing. We certainly liked it there as young singles. We can probably afford about 375K in a house and don't mind the suburbs but do love to be outdoors. Commuting is not an issue. Thanks for any suggestions!

I would suggest Seminole County mostly for the schools....Lake Mary, Winter Springs, Oviedo and yes even parts of Sanford. For the budget you stated you will find the good parts of Sanford.

Nemo pretty much took the words out of my mouth.... Lived in Seminole for 12 years and the towns he list are pretty much spot on......

Wasn't a Central Florida fan myself, but if I were to have stayed in the Orlando area to raise my family I would have chosen to remain in Seminole County.

My sister lives in Oviedo and I have visited a few times - seems like a very nice town with a lot of families there. You should able to buy a nice 4/2 home in Oviedo with a decent sized yard and pool for $300,000-350,000. It's surprising how much home you can get around there for that budget; I am used to NYC and South Florida prices so looking at real estate in Orlando is like reverse sticker shock for myself and many others moving to the area!
