Is this something common in FL? If so why people like this dont you have to pay all these fees and they tell you cannot have a fence this and that?
People like HOA's for the very reason you complained about in this quote:

What about fees? Are you allowed to put a fence around your property? Can you have two small dogs 12&14lbs? you know how strict are they towards you are owning the home but seems like you are restricted on things.

You have to read the documents. All HOA's are different.

My Fiancť works from home as a Medicare Specialist for a nationwide insurance company and she is also a LPN but is only working for the insurance co right now. She can work anywhere. I on the other hand will have a work transfer so I am trying to transfer looking to be near (TAMPA, JACKSONVILLE, and ORLANDO) but be within reasonable distance 20-30 miles around to be more precise.
I am 28yrs and my Fiancť is 35yrs old we like to do things but we just want an area that we donít have to worry about home invasions, car broken into people selling drugs or hooking. Just want to be at home and itís a nice quiet area whether itís a house or an apartment. Although we are looking for a home now but if we cannot find anything then it will be an apartment.

*Where we are now there is no car break in and or apartment breaks in or home invasions but we have some people that simply do not work, make noise, kids all over the place causing havoc, trashy neighbors and neighbors that well would even look through your mail to see what type of employment you have. 1bedroom apartment would have like 12 hindus living in it and or south americans. NO WHERE TO PARK HERE BY THE WAY! I used to be a vounteer Firefighter I gave that up because I would always have to park like 2 blocks away and run to the car to try to make it to the firehouse by the time I got there all trucks are out. People live like animals here.
We think the Destin / Beaches of South Walton could be a place you might be very attracted to. More and more people from the New England area are finding their way here. Since your fiance can work anywhere, then our limited employment wouldn't be an issue plus we do have plenty of medical facilities around. Unfortunately with you needing to be 20-30 minutes to Jacksonville, that would pose a problem. But perhaps if you check with your people, maybe they have a need in our region ---- Panama City, Destin, Ft Walton, Niceville .....

Best of luck to you in your search

No one is forced to live in an area where the homeowners all agree what looks nice. If you don't want to live in an HOA, then don't.

We understand that this type of community with an association is not for you. It happens to not be for us either. However, for some people it is perfect! It's not all about making each home "perfect" but rather maintaining specific standards in the neighborhood. Some people like rules and feel it helps keep where they live safe and clean. Either you are into this type of subdivision or not. In our area you can pick & choose .... you can either buy into a neighborhood with an HOA or there are plenty without you can choose from. We will say that in our experience, the neighborhoods that do not have an HOA are usually a little lower in price.

I agree with TD this is what I dont want people telling me what to do when its my house.

For example up here I call them the breakfast club wives all they do is gossip etc.. anyway in a dev i know they decided that it would be a great idea to have some fancy circle be put in the middle of the road one it now adds congestion and two everyone in the community had to shell out an aditional $100 for this over price project my friend is PISSED!! regrets buying a home in the location he resides in now they are voting to redesign the club house and make it more fancy!! go figure

It sounds like you really do not want to be in Tampa, Orlando, most of Jacksonville and ALL of South Florida, because you will be moving into almost the same situation you are trying to escape.

Check out the smaller places in Florida, especially in the northern parts of the state. St. Augustine, Tallahasee, Niceville, the area around Gainesville, etc.
