I just moved into a Highland Home in S. Lakeland and I LOVE it. Someone on here said they build tract homes for low-income households but I don't agree with that at all. I always thought tract homes were neighborhoods that sprung up over night where all the houses looked the same - Highland Homes is not like that at all. In fact, my neighborhood has big lots and they offer many different floor plans.

They have financing so anyone can buy, including low-income households, but they are definitely not trashy, low-income neighborhoods. I visited many of their neighborhoods before making my decision and they were all very nice. Especially when I compared them to other builders in Lakeland. They have good pricing and include a lot in their homes (some builders I shopped don't even give you a garage door opener!) and helped me find financing and gave me a great interest rate!

I would recommend them to anyone. I also have a friend who has lived in one of their houses about 4 years and has no complaints.

If you build on your lot with Highland you are taking a huge risk. I was researching on your lot builders in East Hillsborough county with 3 builders: Highland, Allstate and Southern homes. Highland was less than the other builders by $25,000.00 Not 2500 or 5000 but $25000 dollars less. I had my suspicions. So when i got down to the Nitty Gritty with the builder it turns out most of the things you must have to build like lot grading, foundation, electric service, porta pottie, clean up, trash removal, permits design and engineering were not included. So the real cost was ultimately the same as the other guys. but the quality was not there compared to the other builders. Cheap shingles, vinyl floors etc... Buyer beware.

The best quality was allstate but they had the highest price so I chose Southern Homes and so far so good.

You say buyer beware as if they are trying to hide something. It is just a different business model, some builders will basically do all inclusive and some are closer to an a la carte type, adding to the base price. It also depends if you are going to the development the builder is already building in or want them to design a new home for construction off site.

We are also looking into building a Highland Home in Winter Haven. We are going through the initial financing steps now & so far our sales rep has been very helpful and answering our emails daily as we come up with questions.
