Hi there - I am one of the very few posters here who live in Lakeland. Lakeland is beautiful, almost in the center of the state, between Tampa and Orlando. We have many beautiful natural lakes here (hence the name, Lakeland Lol) and the town is clean and beautiful. It is not much more than an hour to either coast for beaches. Cost of living is overall a bit lower than other cities in Florida, especially for housing and insurance costs.

There is diversity here, and from what I've seen everyone gets along; as long as you are in the city. The outskirts or rural areas out of town may be more problematic. I live in the urban core, lots of diversity in my neighborhood and there are no problems.

Check out these websites for a little more info:

Hope this helps!

The Lakeland is great. We moved here 3 yrs ago. Our neighbors are from Key West,
New Jersey, New York. Everyone is discovering Lakeland now. Low Taxes, Everything you need. No one can really afford to live on Beach here anyway. Rich people maybe.
We love to go spend nite in Englewood beach or Bradenton beach.

I saw The Kinks at the Lakeland Civic Center in 1983... only time I've ever been there was for concerts but don't remember much other than there were good places near there for middle of the night food, diner like... I'm heading back to WNY, you can have florida and all it has to give... rock on.

I saw Elvis at the Polk Theatre and then at the Lakeland Center.

I will be glad to help anyone I can about different areas of the county. I have lived here all my life but have traveled extensively outside of the area and overseas.

The Lakeland area can be nice and so are the other towns in Polk County. Some areas are better than others, just like any other location.

Good luck.

HI Annie I'm working on Elvis' live activity on August 1956, so I'd like if you share with me your memories about the concert you saw at the polk theater.

Hi,

Are there any "snowbird friendly" condos there? I am looking to buy a winter home in Florida under $100,000.

Thank you.
