Pelicans - Silent Sentinels of the Coast
A never ending source of fascination and entertainment are the Pelicans along the coast. They silently fly along the beach barely moving until such time they are ready to dive into the water. Along with the sandpipers they are my favorites.

FertilityDoc -- that is a magnificent shot of that pelican! I'm with you - I could sit & watch the pelicans & sandpipers for hours on end.

More Pelican Photos
Ferretlady,
Glad you liked the photos. Here are some more photos of pelicans taken on a recent trip to the Thousand Island Mangroves in Cocoa Beach

Gotta love those pelicans!!!
Thanks, those are awesome! I can't wait til we're back down there & I can see all the wonderful shore birds again....
I love that photo of the one guy with his head back & his bill open! And the other fellow - he looks so stately & elegant. Pelicans are such incredible birds. Watching them dive-bomb into the ocean will never cease to amaze me.
I hope to take lots of photos once we're back in FL - but I know I can't get shots as nice as you folks here - some of you must be pro photographers! (Or you *should* be, if you're not already!) THANK YOU again to all of you - I have so enjoyed all of these photos of "home"....

The Last Pelican....
Ferretlady,
Most of us here are not professionals. I just happen to like photography. Still consider myself to be a rank manager. There are so many interesting subjects at the beach. Plus, unlike family the wildlife never complains about having their picture taken

As a native Floridian, I feel compelled to point out that, just as another poster stated, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Hurricanes ARE beautiful in their own way and contribute greatly to the beauty and functionality of Florida's ecosystem. It's nature's way of creating the unique landscape that all of you love so much about Florida. So please, let's not have any more animosity, shall we?
