tn is nothing special, in my opinion
you cant rant and rave about tn, but the truth is, if it were more desirable to live in than fla, tn would have more ppl living there. tn, nc, sc, are all kind of the same for me. they are nice places to look at, but that's it. they are entirely too boring to live in, unless your one of them "good 'ol white boys" from the south. plus, i wouldnt brag to much about tn's eduaction system and then knock fla's. the entire southeast has a mediocre education system, not just fla.

Tennesseans who moved here were mostly like my Dad, war veterans whop had trained here. That is a very simplistic statement to make. The simple truth is that Nashville, Oak Ridge and certain other areas do have what are among the top rated school systems NATIONALLY, they are not mediocre. To make the "good 'ol white boy" statemant just flashes your own ignorance as to what is happening right, in fact it is just an out and out stupid thing to say. I atteneded Oak Hill in Nashville and BGA, both of which are private. I was in public school only short while. My statement was based on current stats and not my experience from the sixties. "The good 'ol white boy" statement simply displays your own racist views and is meant as a slap with an intenttion to offend. The fact is that many latins are living in small town Tennessee and are realizing that those views are out of date.
Was your father a veteran? Do you have an understanding of the dynamaics of the immigration to Florida in the fifities and sixties? Several million men passed through the Air Corps training on Miami Beach and in text books of the 70's that was cited as the reason for growth from the late forties to the late sixties. The Air Corps "owned" nearly every room on the Beach for the wars duration. If you are a paying member with Sperling's you can access alot of stats, plus testimony of folks living in an area helps. But to make a comment like "they would have more people living in them shows just plain ignorance on the subject of Florida's growth. The fact is that Florida is losing, in the South, its middle class, that was the point of the article, it is by the numbers a huge migration and local planners are very concerned. And they are losing them to colder states like TN and NC. And if Southerners are so stupid you would think that they would be losing them to NY, but people are steering clear of those states. Learn the history of Florida migration before you make off the cuff remarks, please.
And, backto, if folks don't have the guts to get out and break molds, like my Grandfather moving from Seidlce Prussia in 1904, throwinhg away a career and an Officers uniform and moving to "Memephis Tennesse" with no relatives, some money and a decent education then who will. I applaud anyone who busts their comfort zone to dio it. It is hard. And if your Dad was a Vet then please don't take offense at my comment. That was not the intention, I know that not all Vets were trained for the Pacific theatre but that was MB's purpose in the War and it drew many of them back.

rkumar, I agree, however a problem remains. You paid 130,000 for your home. Your taxes have risen at 3% per year as designated under our current system. When you buy say, a 400,000 home on a good peice of land the taxes will hit you heavy, until they correct that, it is hard to think about. But you are right, there are still areas with a good spot of land in Palm Beach, especially near Lion Country, I forget the neighborhood name. The next problem will be re-insuring when you do move.

latins moving to tn
is not unheard of. many illegal immigrants have flocked to nc as well. nc is known as the new "ground zero for latino's."
as far as the military and other issues you brought up, i am not going to get involved in those issues. however you did call s fla an armpit, or some such name, and i am from s fla, and my family (many of them) live in s fla. many professional athletes and entertainers live in s fla, so i guess celebrities also enjoy living in such an awful place. you'd think with all the money they have, they'd move to sc or tn, right??? fat chance.
i am not knocking tn, b/c since i have moved back to fla from nc, i will probably VISIT there and nc, and maybe then i can enjoy it a little more, since i wont be living there.
and as far as showing my ignorance, (b/c i made a statement about "good 'ol boys" in tn), you have to me joking if you can honestly say you havent seen any of that. ignorance is being racist and making comments about blacks, jews, and hispanics (many of which in nc i heard in public) and not thinking twice about it. you know how many times i have heard the "n" word?????
fla is much more accepting of race and different ethnic backgrounds than any other state in the south. easily.

It doesn't go up 3% each year. It goes up a max of 3% based on the change in the consumer price index which ever is lower. It could go up nothing or a max of 3%, I believe last year it was like 1.9%. It is a pretty good deal, my taxes are something like $2500 while my neighbor home that is rented and not homesteaded is $14,000. My house is worth more then hers by the way.

Florida is still BEST
I posted this under another thread a while back.....
I live and work in South Florida... There is no doubt there are times when I get annoyed by heat, traffic, hurricanes, real estate values etc.. ususally after a visit to a place which doesn't have it all. But then I sit back and realize there is no PERFECT place... Big cities like NY/Chicago/LA have same problems... only worse. If I choose a smaller remote countryside place, I loose the variety in life, meeting people from various cultures etc.
In fact i was in northern suburbs of Atlanta last week and liked the nice tall pine trees, smoother traffic, uncrowded restaurants/bar, decent real estate values and I started thinking well this place is decent and may be I can see myself here.... Bammm, it hits me it is not that same... when I get on freeways traffic is worse than South Florida, it snows here, when I went out for a bite at 7:30 PM all the restaturants seem almost deserted. Not to mention I was over an hour away from the Airport (important to me since I like travelling). So I realized it is not for me..
The idea is that no place is perfect for everyone.... take your time to explore the new place and weigh in on your lifestyle and make choices accordingly. Don't move to a place because it is a 'hidden secret'.... It is often a secret becuase people didn't really like it. Similiarly places get crowded because there is a lot to offer. I personally still like South FLorida

Jees Louize! robivi3 I'm glad you love TN so much! It's good you got out of Dade because you obviously hate/ed it! I don't understand how you made it here as long as you did! (I assume it was out of your control, so don't feel like you have to respond-unless of course you want to! )
As many have said, and we all know, "to each his own"!
Everyone has different situations. I don't have kids, so, NOT TO SOUND RUDE! , but the school system doesn't affect me. Yeah, yeah, I know - it affects society because these are the people who will be running things in the future blah blah. But the schools are bad in ALOT of places!
And as we all know, IT'S THE PARENTS THAT MAKE OR BREAK THEIR KIDS!!!
Enough on that. My point is that I love Dade & you hate it.
I live here and you don't.
The end.
(It's late & I need to take a shower & get to bed! Night all! )

There has been a lot written about Port St. Lucie, most good, some not so good, but like others have said, noplace is perfect. The easiest thing to do is to go to the menu line near the top of the page and look for "Search". In the blank, type "Port St. Lucie". You should get dozens of references. After reading all those, if you still have questions I'll be glad to try to help.

Excellent point. The anti-South Florida rants here are entertaining. Seriously, how miserable can a location make you? I lived in freakin frigid rustbelt Ohio--I didn't like the place, but it didn't make my life miserable. I enjoy this area's strong and unique positives more than it's negatives, so here I live happily ever after in the warm sun. Crime, traffic, expenses, racial strife, rudeness are everywhere in varying degrees, but this is the place with 80 degree winters and coconut palms. Enjoy your lives elsewhere!
