chinab is an unknown quantity at this point
All I know is... If you are coming from a large city (meaning 500,000+ population), and have a true appreciation for culture and the arts/diversity/urban vibe and characteristics, the only place comparable in Florida is the Miami-area. I'm from Chicago, and am attending school in Tallahassee (HATE IT), and have traveled most of Florida. The only place that impresses me the slightest bit is Miami/South Florida.

This is only a heads up for other "big city folk"!!

O yea, and no matter what they say, Florida is still the DIRTY SOUTH.

May I say something? Where I am IT IS NOT THE DIRTY SOUTH.
There are many beautiful homes with manicured lawns, nice people, which by the way are from alot of northern States.

Please, if you don't like where you are then up and leave.

Don't worry, you'll be more reasonable once you get out into the real world. I have to smile when I see your attitude; reminds me of my daughter who HATED Florida and was NEVER coming back once she graduated from college in North Carolina (where she went so she wouldn't have to stay in Florida). That was 16 years ago; she came back to Florida ten years ago and is starting her tenth year as a teacher in Okeechobee, which was the LAST place she would even CONSIDER!

And, you're going to hate me for saying that. But, I'd love to be a fly on the wall in 15 years...

Are you a music major at FSU? They turn out some of the best band directors...

Excellent point. The anti-South Florida rants here are entertaining. Seriously, how miserable can a location make you? I lived in freakin frigid rustbelt Ohio--I didn't like the place, but it didn't make my life miserable. I enjoy this area's strong and unique positives more than it's negatives, so here I live happily ever after in the warm sun. Crime, traffic, expenses, racial strife, rudeness are everywhere in varying degrees, but this is the place with 80 degree winters and coconut palms. Enjoy your lives elsewhere!
Regarding the celebrity comment, high end real-estate is always a good investment and Florida has no state income tax, I would say that draws more of those people then anything else. They are residents in name only, many probably spend little time here.

Default tn has no state income tax either

let me guess, that's where all the athletes and entertainers live right??? well if they dont spend most of their time here in fla, they must be in l.a.

my point is that they (athletes and entertainers) arent certainly not in nc/sc/tn. that was my original point due to the statement that someone made about s fla being "an armpit."

ps- i guess tn has dolly parton.

Bamboosmom, you're area is lovely. I have watch it grow over the last 36 years and it's still kept it's charm. You know it. I know it. Those that want to argue will argue about anything. Don't let them get you down.

Bam, ditto to what Dee said. We've traveled through a lot of Fla. and it's a beautiful state. There is absolutely nothing "dirty" about it.

Thanks Dee and Jammie!
I know it's great where we are. We are going to snowbird like I stated in previous posts. We will come right back to Punta Gorda to do that.
If anybody wants to know why we are selling, it's because we want to be closer to the family back up north and want more property. That's the plain and simple facts. I know we will sell the house when the right buyers come along! The house is move in ready and priced below market.
