To clarify, Im sorry for using the DIRTY SOUTH label in a forum of individuals who probably aren't familiar with the phrase! Its a nickname used to affectionately refer to the U.S.'s southern states by many music artists...primarily Hip-hop, Pop, and R&B. Most people under the age of 30 would not find offense AT ALL by the terminology. There is a whole vibe and culture behind the name. HOWEVER, the region must have coined the DIRTY SOUTH name for a reason....Maybe? Just kidding!

Anywho, I am a true northerner and would have to say I appreciate the seasons... Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall... I love Florida's weather most of the time, however, the summers are not pleasant for me. I doubt that I will stay down here long, UNLESS, I find a great job with great benefits after I graduate. I will say that I feel part Floridian and will defend the state, and the South in fact, unconsciously when negative comments are made. :-)

I am especially baffled by many of the laws, ordinances, and political agendas present in Florida. Most residents of FLA are transient, therefore I have observed instability within the state over the past three years that I have lived here. O yea, also COSTS ARE WAY TOO HIGH here when you live in fear for almost half of the year hoping that a hurricane won't come and flatten your home!

I've just got to say that I can't wait to retire and move from South Jersey to Englewood, FL. We've bought our lot (5 miles to Englewood beach) and will build asap.

Love Florida!!!

Good luck and God bless! We're expecting a hurricane tomorrow! But like i have said here...if you have a newer house and it is of course coded...it's ok. We went thru 3 cat3s in 2 yrs...not a scratch...and we even had a tornado too.

Good choice. My family is originally from small town N Fla, and Chipley is exactly as described. Quiet, open, clean, still true Fla.

Don't expect it to remain this way for too long. I can't believe how much land is being snatched up and irresponsibly built up by NY developers....

Waterford Lakes is a nice area. Lots of activity nearby, convenient to to the toll roads that take you anywere in Central Florida, reasonable prices.

Sanibel, no doubt about it. kind of pricey but the island is well worth it in my opinion.

next choice is Naples but again kind of pricey.

third choice would be one of the nicer gated communities in Ft Myers.

St. George's Island. Absolutely gorgeous. And I'd have a cabin in Colorado to stay at during hurricane season.
