Bias, myth, allusions, prejudices ALL contribute to ALL our opinions and how we feel at any moment (even mine) -- positive and negative. You can't escape it.

Where in Orlando vs where in Miami?
You obviously have big problems with SoFla, you don't try to hide that. I don't wonder why you think or feel safer in Atlanta or Orlando than SoFla even in the face of quantifiable PROOF of Miami having less crime.
Atlanta is a nice place, it fits for some people. I tried it and it didn't fit for me.
Crime, or lack there of, is NOT a reason to move there however, no matter how some people feel.

I'm sure it would, but it doesn't mean that they are right. Doesn't mean that I'm right either.

"I'm sure it would."
Exactly. I'd rather go by real people and their experiences, not Morgan Quitno or whatever the hell the name was. But that's me.

How about the FBI?
If your going to quote your beloved "Miami has the rudest drivers" over and over as some gospel as to why not to live somewhere, then you have to live by those same type of lists that go against your myths. ESPECIALLY ones based on facts, not feelings.

You can't have it both ways.

Right. Like many others here you accept personal anectdotes from people who are more likely to respond because they're personally frustrated, angry, or otherwise struggling with their situation, and official statistics be damned.
"I KNOW murders are going up because I watch the news and my neighbor's best friend's cousin's boyfriend was shot while trying to buy drugs. I don't CARE that statistics show a different story, nor do I factor in population growth when looking at raw numbers to decide how great it was in Florida during the 90s vs. now."
It's like a comment card at a restaurant. Those with bad service are more likely to fill out a card then those who just want to write a note about how good the service is.

well here is a way to look at it. everyone is fleeing miami/ so fl, my family sure as hell did! everyone is moving to atl. i wonder why everyone is leaving sunny so fl and why everyone is moving to the atl. it is probably because there are better business opportunities and a better economy in atl and it at the very least bare minimum seems like a better/more normal place to raise a family. I'm not bashing so Fl on everything, there are some nice parts (we used to live in the Grove) however nice or not, there are some weird and unsavory dealings going on everywhere down there and it is a lot harder to find people to trust and become family friends with. Plus, if you are white and do not espeake espanol very well, then you are going to have a tough time in s fl just tolerating it, whereas english is the language of choice and the language of business in atl.

The only point you made that I disagree with strongly is the "family friends" comment -- we have found it VERY easy to make friends here. Maybe it's a "circle the wagons" mentality? I don't know, maybe we're just lucky, but it has been VERY easy to meet truly good families.
EVERYONE is not fleeing - some have and some will. Some have fled and came back! EVERYONE is different and wants different things.
YOUR reasons seem perfectly valid for YOU. I do just fine in CGables as a white guy. Not sure what there is to tolerate, but whatever it is, I tolerate it just fine. But that's ME.
Crime is just NOT the reason to move, city vs city, statistically. No matter how you slice it.
Hope you continue to enjoy Atlanta!

Planetsurf, off the website you posted from morgan quitno:
Most Dangerous 25 --------> 1 Detroit, MI 2 St. Louis, MO 3 Flint, MI 4 Oakland, CA 5 Camden, NJ 6 Birmingham, AL 7 North Charleston, SC 8 Memphis, TN 9 Richmond, CA 10 Cleveland, OH 11 Orlando, FL and Atlanta was 21st.
where's atlanta in 2007? i saw in 1994 and 1995 atlanta was the worst, but this is 2008 now. (this info is a little dated: Atlanta, Georgia - 1994[1], 1995[2])
