Default Callaway/Parker

Good Morning,
I am (of course) new here and would appreciate any info you could give on small areas around Panama City, such as Callaway, Parker, etc. My husband and I are planning to move there next month. We plan to rent a place until we either build or buy. We raise our 13 year old granddaughter , so schools are important, too. We would like an area with good schools and affordable housing, whether it be Callaway or somewhere else nearby. (just out of the busy, hussle-bussle of PC).
Thanks for any info.

Hi Brenda4,
We live in Lynn Haven outside of Panama City. One thing you might want to consider is the SMELL of Callaway and Parker areas. There is a Chemical Plant and a Paper Mill in those areas and boy on some days it will take your breath away. Also the schools in that area just received grades lower than the Lynn Haven area. You might want to check out the Lynn Haven area for your family.

Thank you very much. My husband lived in Callaway for a few years and yes, he did talk about the smell. We are open to the Lynn Haven area. Are the schools better there? We currently live in Columbus, Ga. Our gd is a straight A student and will be entering 7th grade. We do want a good school for her. We will be looking to either buy or build a house wherever we decide to settle. Could you give me a heads up on the housing costs in Lynn Haven? Not price, per say, but is it average or high? Make sense? We are both retired, so jobs aren't an issue. Just a nice, safe area.

The school reports just came out and the Lynn Haven schools scored very high.
My dd is going to Mowat Middle school this year 6th grade and she is very excited.
It is an A school and they work very hard to keep it. She is also straight A's and she wants to stay that way. The high school is A. Crawford Mosley and I have an upcoming Junior there and they are an A school and my son loves it. He is also straight A's and is in the Math Honors club. I know when we moved schools were my big concern and they kids as well as myself have been wonderfully surprised her in Lynn Haven. The housing cost in any of Florida has been way overpriced but they have fallen alot. You can now get a nice house in a great area for the mid to high 200,000. Of course the property taxes and insurance are high but overall it cost more than in NC. Where will you be moving from? As far as areas around Lynn Haven, it depends on how much you are willing to spend as to where I would suggest looking for a home. I can help you with good areas to look in if you tell me what price range you are looking for. I travel all around this area with my 3 kids going to dance, baseball, math team practice and know what the good safe areas are and I can tell you if you want me to.

Thank you so much for all the info. Sounds like Lynn Haven may be more of what we are looking for. I would say the price range of 200-300 would be in line with our thoughts. You sound a lot like me....my gd is in dance, as well. Always on the go! We are now in Columbus, GA. We will be going to PC week after next to start looking at what is available in the area.

Hi Brenda,
Be sure to look at the Hammocks Subdivision, Mowat Highlands Subdivision and Candlewick Subdivisions. The schools are good and close to everything but still away from everything. These are good areas with good people around you. You can also look in North Harbor area these are the state streets, some streets are not as good but some are great. Look on the state streets on the side of 77 towards Northshore such as Vermont Ave, New Jersey Ave, Massachusetts Ave and such as those. Hope you have a safe trip, also make time to go across the bridge to the beach for a while it is beautiful and in the off season you can spend forever over there.
