You're coming from the UK? Well, it takes alot of money to live in the country in Volusia County, unless you want to live in a trailer on a less than desirable (i.e. swampy, worthless) piece of land. Look in Ormond Beach and Port Orange. There are nice parts of Daytona Beach proper, but overall Ormond and Port Orange are much nicer and safer, and the school zones are better.

I agree. I have lived here all of my life and DH has since the age of seven (I am now 49 so that's a LONG time, LOL). I am a teacher here and our three children attended (two boys have graduated recently) or are attending (our DD is in third grade) the public schools. We used to live in a nice section of Daytona (not too far from the flight school and near a nice museum) but are also very happy in Port Orange. Ormond as the previous poster mentioned, is also a nice place to live. South Daytona is another option. All of our public schools offer special education for children with special needs (has your son been tested?). If he hasn't been, you can request it be done by the school system. You can also have your DD tested for the gifted program if you think she qualifies and she has not been tested. Many schools have a gifted program available and if she does qualify, she can be bused, along with your son, to the public school nearest to you which offers the program. Let us know if you have more questions.

Nancy
