Lake County, Florida was carved from parts of Sumter County on the west and Orange County on the east. It was named for the large amount of lakes in the area, approximately 1400 named lakes!

Orange County, Florida was originally named Mosquito County. It was changed in 1845 and several other counties were carved out of Orange County in later years.
