How did you get the discount? Did you have the wind inspection done or did they just call you up and tell you that your insurance dropped? I had the wind inspection done and I'm hoping to get some savings from that. Although, our insurance is only a little over $700 per year.
That's great news, congratulations!

Ours went down $400 this year and we didn't know it until the bill came in the mail. No reason given why they lowered since the coverage was still the same but i'm not complaining.

I had it done via the state, no cost, took about an hour. He provided the documentation, signed off the paperwork and I had to fax my report to the insurance company. Took about 2 weeks to get a reply (standard for most companies). My insurance broker took care of the rest.
Now, for your house to be Hurricane proof, the doors, windows and garage door has to be certified as such. Only 0.01 percent have it, most of us 99.9 don't meet the whole criteria.
Contact a contractor in your area and get it done. See link to site: My Safe Florida Home

Okay thanks, I will check out the site. Anything to save money on insurance and I would feel better knowing that my house has a better chance during a hurricane.

That reminds me I need to get all my paperwork turned into my house insurance to see if I can lower my insurance.

Sunrico,
I signed up for this, through the website you posted......they told me it should take about 2-3 weeks to hear from someone.
They gave me an official application number, etc, but i'm still waiting to hear from the inspector to schedule an appointment.

I was just told (3 weeks ago) that there were no more free inspections this year, that the money ran out. That means people will be put on a waiting list for 2009.
We had the inspection done anyway for $125 thru an inspector certified by the state, got their name from our State Farm agent. They came out within days to do it.
We had the (free) inspection done on our previous house and saved over $800 (Naples) so we thought it would be worth paying for it. Haven't heard yet from the insurance agency yet on what our refund will be this time.

You need to call back and ask for the name of the individuals that service your area. Also check with the local home inspectors and ask if they are part of th program and they should provide a lead to the approved contractors.
In my case I had the name of the inspector and told the customer service that i will contact the contractor and worked perfectly. Best of luck...
