I have always been fond of the ocean, born and raised on the ocean I don`t think I could ever live too far from it I would feel isolated.

I love Tennessee, Moving here was the best move I've ever made and my wife and I plan to retire here. I was just commenting on North Carolina, I have quite a few relatives that live there and they love it as well. IMO, Florida has better beaches, However, That's only due to the fact that most Florida beaches have sand shipped in from the Islands...

The biggest problem in FL is that the state government caters to tourists more then its own residents.

Tennessee is growing also, The population has almost doubled in the past 10 years and while I can't speak about East or West Tennessee, Middle Tennessee ( mostly Nashville ) is starting to spraw. I'd say give it another 10-20 years and Nashville-Murfreesboro will be one big, non-stop city.

There is still plenty of country around, but it's a nice blend.

I actually voted no because I only had lived near the major cities in the eastern part of the state but I've known others who have lived in other parts that say the place is fine.
Even with the not so great experiences I had there,if the crime rate wasn't so high overall and the place wasn't heading for a wipeout weatherwise I might consider it

Just saw this George Carlin quote posted on another blog. "I love Florida. Everything is in the 80s; the temperatures, the ages, and the IQ's."

The man was good. May he rest in peace.

California seems worse, but there is still hope for Florida if the real estate bubble deflates.

Maybe it will in time like in '29? Can it really happen. How many here in FL can survive on Grits & Grunts?
