I grew up in Manhattan

I can undertstand staying inside in FL,especially in summer! Although the women I came across loved always being out(this was winter though)...but perhaps that might have added something to the 'flightiness' that people refer to in FL. People don't slow down enough to stop and get to know each other.

People are ALWAYS out in Manhattan. All hours of the night and day. All times of the year. It might have something to do with the fact that when you live in a "closet" the 4 walls close in on you and you just have to go out to escape them and be able to breathe.

HowDeDo-I don't feel that I have been there enough Crestview to describe it enough for you, I do not want to influence your judgement, I know somethings that I have read on these forums have scared me in regards to places that I am considering moving to, the only way to know for sure is to take even a small amount of time-maybe a few days and visit the place for yourself. What maybe bad to me may be great for you. That said, my impression was a lot of traffic, a small city that is trying to grow and is undergoing expansion-strip malls, housing developments, etc. I saw a lot of military presence-but again as I said there is a major base nearby. I cannot with any certainty describe the culture-I made the remark about Alabama beacuse for me being in the middle of the state it takes 6 hours to get out of the state of Florida-that is not something I like. I love to travel and so much of your trip is used in just getting out of the state. And you may want bigger cities like Birmingham, Tallahassee or even Atlanta, and none of those would be impossible to reach. And no sorry I cannot recommend any must see other then the beaches at Destin.

TANaples-I would love to live in New York, I was accepted at Columbia and wanted to go very, very badly. But I also have my Mother to consider and there was simply no way in the world that we could afford to live in New York City. It is a dream of both of us, New York or Boston or even San Francisco. We love big cities, the hustle the bustle, the people out at all hours. The first time a friend moved from New York to here I was mesmerized by his stories of getting Chinese food or pizza at one in the morning-that would be impossible in Florida. We love the subway, the culture, all of it. And we would take the bad with the good except for money!

Basically, FL is a place where only criminals should live. They should be sent here to live in prisons (with no a/c). Yes, bugs roaming and hurricanes destroying while the rest of us, as we cross the border, are each compensated with nice, fat paychecks.

Well, youve been helpful and i thank you for that. I took an extended RV trip and passed thru the Panhandle down around Route 98 but never made it up to Crestview area. So, im planning on coming down in 6 weeks to check Crestview out as well as Milton/Pace and Jay. I want a smallish town to live in as ive spent all my life close to very large Cities. Ill welcome the slower pace im sure. Regards.

I am as far from a fan of Florida as you can be, but knowing how hard friends have tried to meet decent guys here in Florida, it is sad to hear that men left Florida thinking all of it's women were the same. I am only hoping that the people on other states are different, I myself do not have the best feelings about fellow Florida citizens. There is a huge problem in Florida and I am only hoping that it is not true of the entire country that people-young, old you name it stay in their houses and do very little socializing. I like to go to friends houses, I love dinner parties and just meeting up with friends, but the majority of people my age and even younger stay home and watch television. I am in the process of actually visting schools in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast to transfer to, I am hoping that the people there are different.

There are exceptions, However, The majority of girls in Florida are only looking for models or guys with money or both. Atleast, I'll say the girls between 18-30. When you start getting to the girls that are 30 or older they start to get a little more desperate because the guys with money get someone younger and the models have extra girls on the side.
I would say that there are the girls that will rarely go out anywhere then complain that they can't meet anyone, ect, ect. That's their faults, no one elses.
I was 17-18-19-ish and looking in Tampa and later when I moved back to FL was 21-22ish looking in Ft. Myers and found the same although the girls I met in Ft. Myers seemed to be nicer and little more exotic. Either way, I'm guessing the girls in Florida want to meet a man that can provide them with the " ideal Florida lifestyle " I couldn't do it because I was money-less and struggling.
Hindsight, Now that I have college and a good job I could probably go to Florida and get a plastic, man made queen but I'm over that. I have a great wife and life is good.

You read my mind! I know living in the U.S. means I am very, very fortunate, but one of the reasons why I want to escape FL and never look back is because of the crime.
Half a mile down the road from my home, people have been robbed in broad daylight as they stood on their front lawns. I heard gunshots next door when the house was vacant and for sale. This is considered a decent area of town, with schools around the corner.
