Not everyone has that option all the time. People without a degree and without a current job to transfer them almost always move without employment. It's almost imposible to get someone to hire you from another state with an out of area phone number.

I was lucky enough to move to Texas without a job and found one within 3 days.

The economy really isn't bad everywhere. The news will tell you how the housing market in the U.S. is horrible right now, They don't mention that Florida and California are what's putting the number where they are.

Nashville has seen only a slight change in the housing market. Houses here are still bought and sold as usual. Our job market is also very good right now as Nissan and Purina have recently moved their HQ to Nashville and Volkswagon just announced they were building their new plant in Chattanooga. Add that in with Nissan plants in Decherd,TN and Smyrna, TN, a Saturn plant in Spring Hill, TN and the Dollar General Stores HQ ( I think it todays economy, EVERYONE is shopping there ) Our economy is very good right now.

It's only bad in states that can't lure new business to move to their states and depend on heavy tourism industries.

Many videos of Myakka State Park show people doing this very thing.

I love to Kayak along the intracoastal area, especially Jupiter inlet.... the water is crystal clear blue, the scenery great, and no gators to boot!

If you are leaving soon, good for you! That's the beauty in our country as we can just move if we have the means, to a better place. No matter how much some bash Florida, there will always be others living there. Yes I have visited at times and loved it and the sun and heat did not bother me. It was actually drop dead hotter as soon as I got back in to Ohio, than it ever was in Florida. And my aunt lived in Tampa for over 30 years so I know about Florida weather. She only moved back up here recently as she was getting older and wanted to be near the family. There are people in life who will not be happy no matter where they settle in life. There are also ones who diss Florida and move out, only to find Florida wasn't so bad really in the first place. Maybe the State isn't for you, but for a lot of ailing people with circulatory and arthritic problems, the warmer climate is ideal for them as cold weather is agonizing for some. Probably why so many elderly flock to Florida. My own Mother is relocating along with me for that very reason. She is 54 and each fall and winter up here gets more painful (literally) each passing year. I will still be an active member on this board when I do move to Florida so I'll still share my experiences being a resident when I do move. And if I become a Florida cheerleader like some, do not end up hating me for it for loving a place when you may not A little secret, the economy is in shambles all over, it's not just a Florida issue. But we still have to live our lives and press on in life and make things the best we can (for us). We do what feels right for us, that includes you as well.
I love your post and it makes a lot of sense. Your Mom is very fortunate to be heading for the warmth. I understand exactly how she feels.

Just one thing~the economy really isn't bad all over. It's just hard to see that it's good in many places when your own area is not doing well.

I was looking into other areas to retire. But we will be staying in Fl I just don't want to leave at this time. I still enjoy it . I thought I move back up north but it's really to cold. Then I thought of Ga It's really pretty but I would miss the beaches I love the idea of being in the middle of the state I can get to the beach in an hour. There is good and bad everywhere I guess it's up to each person as to where they feel they enjoy. We our blessed my hubby has a good job as we transfered here from up north . I never had any problems here . I'm gonna stick around until who knows

If I was going to live anywhere else it would be California or Texas but Florida IMO is a good place to live depending on what you are looking for, it`s good for me.

Cold states or far inland states are out for me.

If you are in a $460k neighborhood and you're not making the bucks to support it, then you are in the wrong neighborhood.

Naples? Emm, maybe you're in the wrong city.

NYC? You will need the high salary to pay for the taxes, the tolls, the price of gas, car insurance, extremely high electric rates, a failing infrastructure, a life of inconvenience, ah, NYC. Left it 20 years ago.

To: College_student10 - I agree 100% with what you said in your OP. I used to live in TN. My mother-in-law at the time said to me and I quote - "FL is a nice place to visit, but I sure wouldn't want to live there!" I thought she was crazy (at the time). I moved down here from TN after my divorce 5 years ago. NOW, I totally see what she meant by that statement. The economy is non-existant as are the jobs. I'm an RN and I thank my lucky stars that I can get employment. My boyfriend cannot land a full-time job down here. This is why we are gladly moving to TX by the end of the year.
Good luck to you.

Well, as far as jobs go when I go to Massachusetts in 3 weeks I have 2 interviews set up as of this evening!!! I got 2 calls tonight! I am pretty excited now, I think the first one is a done deal, they are sending me the paperwork to fill out! More than what I can say here. It's been horrible since I came here in February. 7.9%unemployment rate in Lee county, yep it shows...
