psouth, horribly, that is true. Only reason I got mine being overqualified is because I am working weird hours and they knew I was taking grad classes as a NDS student, that didn't really come to fruition and I am going to go somewhere else now. My resume is better than everybody I work with even my boss, he is trying to finish his degree.
They are more than happy to have me, especially because of the low wage, unfortunately I will be leaving for them, and good for me. But I put in a good 3 months of quality work for them, so while sad to see me leave, I am sure they understand.
There are plenty of more bad things here, the good thing is my family is in the area...but, that really isn't enough to keep me, I'll never get anywhere or make anything out of myself if I stay in FL. I left before after finishing school after trying to be close to family, didn't work then, didn't work now... I've had it up to here with FL and don't really plan on coming back unless I am forced to, I'll pay for my parents plane tickets to come visit me.

The economy is booming and it feels just like Florida. It is over the Pensacola line. The gulf beaches are the best in the country, everything is new here, taxes dirt cheap and it is the best kept secret. You will find a job!!

If I would opt to move to West Palm Beach, I, or a member of my family, would be twice as likely to be murdered, robbed, raped, being a victim of a violent crime, and/or being victimized by theft or robbery of my personal belongings. Just the facts.....

If one looked at just the facts and disregarded the personal component, Florida appears to be one of the national hubs of crime---- a very dangerous place to be. I bet there are stats that someone manufactured that will show that Florida is more dangerous than the drug cartel areas of Mexico. Are you still saying that the stats don't lie, and personal insights have little value?

Florida is a very large state and probably the most diverse in the nation .. some areas are quite laidback , friendly and safe and others are not .. I take these stats with a "grain of salt " .... look at the panhandle and southeast Florida for instance you could not get two places that are more different ... look at the Sarasota , St. Pete , Clearwater corridor .. it is much different than the Miami , Ft.Lauderdale , Palm Beach corridor .. people are more laid back , less illegal immigrants , the cost of living is slightly lower ... look at the northeast of Florida .. Jacksonville , Ponte Vedra , St. Augustine you may as well be in Georgia ... Florida can be a great place to live depending on where you live and income ... if you do not have a pot to **** in like I suspect many malcontents on this forum do not ... you will not be happy anywhere .

I am a transplant from the north east ( 15 years ) and I think Florida is a great place to live ... it all depends on where you live , your social circle , friends and family and of course income . We have friends in Palm Beach Gardens , Stuart , Vero Beach , Tampa and Ponte Vedra and none would leave these places for any other areas in the country .. we also have friends in Miami , Orlando and West Palm Beach who hate it here .. so again a large diverse state ... it depends on where you live .

If you like violent thunderstorms EVERY day during the spring, summer, and fall, it's the place for you.
If you like paying $1200 a month for rent and want to make $8 an hour IF you can find work, it's the place for you.
If you like paying thousands in homeowners insurance, auto insurance, and property taxes, it's the place for you.
If you like high crime, rude, and old people, it's the place for you.
That's just the start...

I drove to work on Friday at 5:30 AM in the DARK and it was 80 degrees with 79% humidity, and no breeze whatsoever. I had the AC blasting in the car. Think about what it was like by 3:30 PM.
Fortuntely, I am off for the summer and can stay inside for the next 3 months.

I'm a firm believer that Florida paradise is your very own. It's what YOU make of it. Hense, many are disappointed.

Is it possible for you to find a job on the graveyard shift--then you could just sleep most of the day and be up when it's a little cooler outside, with no sun. You might like that better. It takes some time to adjust to that schedule but I have a relative who's been doing it for years now. Or a shift like 3PM to 11PM. I did that a long time ago and that's not too hard to adjust to.

No. Once you get a "macro" of the crime situation in a particular area, there is and will be yet another layer to the "crime ranking" statistics, which is MUCH easier ascertained by OTHER OBJECTIVE FACTS than asking people how safe they FEEL in West Palm Beach:
For example,
Do you know that the vast vast majority of murders in West Palm Beach are young black men killing other young black men in a part of town that I ASSURE you, you and/or your family would NEVER live in?
Do you know that a vast vast majority of murders in West Palm Beach are "acquaintence/family" related, and or drug and gang related?
Do you know that "Hispanic" migrant workers are more likely to be targeted for robbery because they are known to carry large sums of cash around?
THOSE are OBJECTIVE statistics.

See above. There are additional OBJECTIVE facts that will allow you to TRULY gauge your personal crime victimization possibility.
If I tell you, "I live in West Palm Beach and have never been a victim of crime, so you should ignore the statistics," then THAT is a subjective opinion that may not jive with the overall threat, depending on YOUR personal situation. It actually does not help ANYONE because I don't know a damn thing about you, your age, race, whether or not you'll be trolling the ghetto for drugs at 3AM, whether or not you can only afford to live in Section 8 housing, etc.
Even if someone asks, "Do you FEEL safe in West Palm Beach" I can personally answer by saying, "I feel safe in West Palm Beach." NORMALLY, I will tell people, "Don't move to the northside of town unless it's one or two particular neighborhoods" but if five people say, "I feel safe" and five more say, "I don't feel safe..." what good has that done?
My mother lives 40 minutes or so North of West Palm Beach, in a city that has moved up and down the "safest city in America" list for years and years (at one time a couple years back it TOPPED the "safest city in America" list. SHE, however, has had her house burglarized, while I have never (knock on wood). If she came on her ranting about how bad crime is in Port St. Lucie because she got her house broken into, and I came on here talking about how it's peaches and cream because I've never had my house broken into, isn't it a BAD THING if people walk away from the forum thinking WPB is safer than PSL?
Now, if someone asks, "What is it like for interracial couples in X area," then THAT is something that "personal experience," particularly from people in interracial couplings, can give "personal opinions" on, since it measures SUBJECTIVE.

I know people who live in West Palm and Boca and neither group has had any trouble. I know it's rough around the edges in some places (I stayed in a hotel in Riviera Beach for a couple of days so I saw it), but it all depends what neighborhood there you live in.

Riviera Beach is bad. Like Camden with Palm Trees. It's southern border "bleeds" into WPB's northern border. If I had my way, I'd cede northern WPB to Riviera Beach. WPB's crime stats would drop like a rock, lol.
Of course, even in Riviera Beach (which technically includes parts of Singer Island, which is actually a very nice area), "what you're doing," "who you are," and "who you are with" can go a long way in determining your victimization possibility.
