The difference here is... I made the thread for us to WHINE as you say it. It was to keep us in a place where we can safely vent. The threads we all post in in other topics are, well, fair game, they are not labeled as "for florida happy, everything is perfect people". You know what? Post in the miserable thread, be my guest, but expect whining and us malconents to complain, deal with it. I think you 2 just do this to get us going. You can deal with us and our sorry whining and complaining too.

I have to thank you TANaples for reminding me that I made the right decision by leaving that miserable part of the coutnry and never looking back. I'm giving you one rep point.

in the past two years. Lee County lost 3,000 this year. I wonder where all these families are going? Hmmm? I personally know two in the school where I work. They both went back to MICHIGAN. Yep, SNOW and all.
Another reminder. If you can survive 9/11, "horrible weather" is absolutely NOTHING. Does laying on a beach make you tough???????????? It fries your brain and make you LAZY and compliant.

Michigan is the last place I would go to (from FL or anywhere else) for a better job. It's notorious for it's bad economy. Those folks are probably moving in with relatives there to freeload.

and moved here for a job. He got a very unexpected call from his former employer not only offering him his old job back, but with a pay increase. From what I heard the family was struggling here in Florida financially and decided they would be better off back in Michigan. I guess money trumps weather.

So you have one anecdotal case where someone got a good job in Michigan and that suddenly makes the state an economic powerhouse. Using that same logic, I can take your situatioon and claim that Florida is a great job mecca because you had to move here to get a job.

I have been reading this thread- and others- and I definately fit the description of "miserable in FL" and I can relate to so much everyone has been saying. First of all, I agree that it is pretty clear that this thread is just for people not happy here, so as not to offend those who are. But those who are UNHAPPY (myself included) do need a sounding board to vent with others who understand so as not to feel like we are going crazy!!!
I moved to Florida from NJ 5 years ago with my 2 daughters during a divorce and financial hardship. I had a good job opportunity for me, a place to escape the marital drama, and some family here. I remember my first months here, driving around, thinking..."where the he** am I?". I felt lost. I have gone through five years trying to make the best of it. TRYING not to let the differences and things that I miss bring me down daily. I do not like the weather, not one bit. I know that weather is a matter of opinion. But for me, it is too hot for me to do normal things I enjoy doing outside (gardening, walking, running, sitting on the porch, even going to the beach) about seven months of year. My daughters are inside here because of the heat more than they ever were back home. We have a trampoline and a basketball hoop which are barely used and I don't blame them. There is no sense of "neighborhood" where I live, at all. I miss living near the city- both NY and Phila. I have met many nice people but not one person who I connect with completely. Traditions such as birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, graduations, seem to blend into life here ...nothing seems celebrated or a "big deal". There is already a loss of seasons and the feelings that go along with them. The crisp, cozy approach of fall- the beautiful skies, new fall wardrobe, autumn leaves, decorating with mums. I used to love decorating my house for the seasons back home, with flowers and holiday decorations--no one does that here. I love winter, the first snow, "snow days", the coziness of being inside while the cold wind howls outside. No, I don't love the cold in March and April. I'm ready for the spring by then . But it's only two months, and you get some preview days during those months. As spring approaches, you are ready for green trees, warmth, shorts and the beach. For me, the seasons are just a part of who I am. They , among other things and people, have been missing in my life for the past 5 years. Thankfully, I have made the decision that my girls and I will move back to NJ next June - job or no job. I used to try to convince myself that "it's just weather", and it shouldn't define your happiness. But for some people, a particular kind of weather, or atmosphere, whether its 4 seasons, cold, warm, mountains, the beach- it is a part of them. It's not wrong, it's not shallow- it's just life and part of growing up, maturing, and realizing what makes us feel the best and live our best lives. It took me moving to Florida to realize this. I took it for granted for the most part while I lived in NJ my whole life. But, I can tell you this, I never will again. I just wanted to write this post, not as a dig to Florida- I know many people who love it here - including both of my parents who lived in NJ longer than I did before moving here. I needed to post this hoping that there will be many others, like me, who can identify with me and not feel like they are alone or going crazy. No place is perfect, we just need to find the place that is perfect for us. ))

Hello? The company had gone through bad times and apparently was doing better. So, they called their former employees when they could hire again. That is not an unusual situtation. This family was in a bad situation financially. They were going to make a lot more money in Michigan. They still had FAMILY in Michigan. Why in the world should they stay here just for the weather???????
Again, I REPEAT. I HAD a job in New York. I was offered a different one in New York while I still HAD A JOB.
I came here and turned DOWN TWO JOBS. I have no trouble getting a job ANYWHERE.

You clearly stated that you were forced to move to Florida against your will for employment. I can't imagine why on earth someone for whom every moment spent in this state is apparently such excruciating agony would move here, unless you aren't telling us the whole story.

I guess that is why I always feel so depressed starting in October. Every month feels exactly the same as the month before. Last year I decorated the house with all my pumpkins, wreaths, etc., closed all the blinds so I could not see outside, burned a Fall scented candle, lowered the ac, and tried to pretend it was Fall outside too. It was my own little sanctuary against the world outside. I tried to do the same during the Christmas season. I would rush home from work just to be in my own special place and not have too feel the heat or look at nothing but palm trees. I also wore my long pants, long sleeves just to make it feel like the season was changing.
Yeah, sad, I know, but it helps me cope. However, I can completely understand what you mean.
