It's only August and already in Middle TN you can tell that fall is on its way. It's been getting down into the low 60's at night

Tennessee is cool. I really liked Nashville! Too keep this on track - I think that people that are miserable should check out Tootsies' on 2nd Avenue!

My wife and I really like Tennessee. I tried to talk her into moving up to one of the New England states but she refused because she wants to be atleast a day drive away from her family.
Shes from a state as equally oppressive as Florida, Louisiana.
I love the Fall and Winter. I was born and lived in Central Florida for the first 17 years of my life. I didn't know what Fall and Winter really was. I can honestly say I live for Football season and actually getting to go to games in the cold and sometimes even in the snow adds a whole new excitement that you can't get going to a game in Florida where games in October and November can be in the 90's...

I spent the first 14 years of my life in Florida, born in Tampa, and the moved to Ft. Lauderdale, then to Atlanta. When I moved to Atlanta I made friends right away in high school and was invited to do lots of things, had a great time in high school and still see a lot of my friends from high school. Back then Atlanta had colder weather, but it has warmed up a lot now. Only a few cold days in winter, I wish it was colder. I've visited Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa and other areas of Florida, I even spent 6 months in Tampa two years ago and 4 months in south Florida. I wouldn't want to live there now. Quality of life is not good for all the reasons expressed here. I like to visit Florida, but would not live there. Too risky, too expensive, etc. Even though I don't live there now, I feel I can express my thoughts on this blog.

I teach in the Bronx, and our school play yard (which is brand new) is blacktop and the kids don't complain. Towards the end of the year, there were TONS of kids all over the area playing. I don't know where in NYC you've been where you don't see kids playing in parks.
I can't imagine playing on the grass in Florida barefoot. The grass there is a lot sharper for some reason. My feet are killing me if I even take 10 steps in that grass lol

Its only certain grasses. Most normal people don't put that itchy, prickly grass in anymore, you can still find it in older neighborhoods. Saint Augustine Grass which many people put in isn't sharp or itchy you can walk with no shoes just fine. Now what creatures are in the grass that is another thing.

Actually, Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. I still went when there was snow on the ground. You could brush off the snow and still go on a swing or slide wearing a coat, hat, gloves, and boots! Yep, even when the temperature was below freezing.
We especially went there with a new freshly fallen snow. It was really nice then for a city kid; threw snowballs, made snow angels/snowmen, etc., all the things most kids up north do. When I got tired of that, I went to movies, libraries, museums, shopping, pizza/soda shops, etc. I didn't hibernate in the winters. There just plain was too much to do outside of my apartment.
The other advantage was that city kids learn to travel around alone very young. They can go places and do things and parents don't have to drive them here, drive them there. I was about 10 or 11 when I started taking mass transit to places all on my own and/or with friends.

Another great post, description making everybody homesick!
NOW I want to go to my favorite bakery Veniero's, Lower East Side.
And yes, I took mass transit with my classmate from boarding school in the 7th grade up to lower Harlem where she lived. It's where I saw my first "body part" of some guy exposing himself when she said "now don't look up at that guy" and I didn't listen to her street smarts
Ahhhh the good old days!
