The high crime results in low property values. Besides youd still need $150k for a small home in that tiny "city" not a desirable nor safe location. I havent seen any affordable houses in FL, just affordable vacent land

Nah, have you ever gone through the listings of homes in the panhandle? Some are actually quite reasonable.

I was just helping a girl look for a house (not a condo, these are deplorable) in the Orlando metro area.

Our search went from as far down as Poinciana (past Kissimmee, almost in Polk County) to as far up as Lake Mary. The only houses we saw for under $200k were in Kissimmee, border with Poinciana. Some are smaller than her current apt (1,100 sq. feet). Some didn't even have an attached garage, they had a carport. Very bad.

Just as you raise the issue, maybe the prices are at $200k because crime is high there??!

I am starting to think crime is high EVERYWHERE in Central Fla. There is no longer any escaping.... That is why I carry a gun. No other way to survive these days.

Sorry but I wouldnt call a high crime area "paradise" and to compound the problem, theres a lack of affordable housing. Many people rent or live in mobile homes.

Crescent City is a small town so crime is magnified. I have lived here 5 years in the center of town and have not found it unsafe.
If you don't do drugs, shop at reasonable hours, etc. you are fine.

I just checked out many small towns in GA and we toured some in PA. When we talked to the people on the street they told us drugs were a problem. I am afraid it is our next epidemic. Do your part. Watch your neighbors! Help your neighbors. Know who they are.

Well I just did a search in the west side of Hernando County and we have 85 block homes minimum 1400 sq ft 3/2/2 built 2000 or newer for under $180,000.
Some as low as $149,000 and that one is brand new 1691 sq ft living area.

There are some areas that are not great but some of these are in gated developments with community pools and clubhouse.
