I propose that if this discrimination is written into the FL constitution that we gay people give them what they want. We'll all leave Florida. All the gay people will leave Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando particularly. I wonder how the states economy will do then?

I hope the "anti Amendment 2" people REALLY have their acts together this election season. They need to hit back with adverts HARD, showing the wide sweeping ramifications of this bill.

It seems they are so much more organized there. I subscribe to another blog and it is amazing how many organizations are raising money and getting the word out in California, from major unions to the AARP.
It's going under the radar here. How many people even know that this is on the ballot in Florida and what far reaching implications it can have, besides of course, the outright discrimination against gays being written into law.

It really makes one wonder with all the pressing problems in this country, that sticking it to a gay person continues in full force. That to me is a sign of just how hateful this country really can be. When you think of actually voting on how a person is to be treated in their own country. What their rights are to be, how they are to be looked upon by society. While taxing them at the rates those with full rights have, is a disgrace. I believe this has already been tried in the world with other groups, and we are not suppose to forget. Like I said, do not support states that insist on voting on you, like you were some sort of deviant who deserves to be treated as less. Florida has a huge gay population and as another person stated South Florida's economy is heavily funded by such. If it passes, I hope the gay population finally will stick up for itself and say enough is enough, and get the hell out. As far as I am concerned the constant ballot initiatives towards gays, or whomever they like to say they are towards has to stop. If it continues in this manner in this country, this homophobia. If it continues to be acceptable to consider a gay person as someone that is weak and that it is ok to joke about them as some sort of a lower class. Well then I fear that someday if this doesn't stop in america, a gay person will be forced by law to register as such with the authorities. I don't believe people are taking it all seriously enough. Ballot initiatives from one state to another on this subject in a country that economincally is falling apart. A country that is in a non stop war. Contantly making a gay person part of the focus in politics. In other words not focusing on fixing the USA. Something is seriously wrong people.

I'm hoping that if this really is the year of "the young voter," they get out in force to stop this Amendment.
Unfortunately, some of the natural constituency of the "progressive" choice this presidential election are some of the most ardent anti-homosexual voices out there.... so god knows what it will be like in November.

I only support amendments that limit Government power or give citizens rights. If I had my way, marriage would be purely religious and not secular.

There would be no need to get married. The legal aspect is simply a contract between two people. The formal "marriage" is a tradition based on religion. Where do most marriages take place....Hmmmm....

They should call all government issued licenses (contracts) Civil Unions, for EVERYBODY, gays and straight. You need this for legal purposes.
People who want the religious aspect can go to a place of worship for a marriage. The religious institutions can refuse to marry, as they now do, anybody they want.
There needs to be a separation of the civil and the religious. Far too many people blur the two when it comes to "marriage".
