The body has a natural cooling system and a way to handle heat and humidity (we did evolve in the sauna of Africa..lol). If the body is in shape (ideal weight, proper nutrition and hydration, moderate to heavy excercise on a regular basis) the cooling system will work at it's optimum efficiancy. Trust me. Fit people handle the heat and humidity way better, it's an observable and scientific thing.

It doesn't matter whether a person can handle it. I can handle it. I'm just sick to death of it. I don't like the heat. Never have.

I'm not trying to insult anybody, but help. It's not a ridiculous statement. I've been a fitness/nutrition specialist and it is a fact that fit people aren't as bothered by heat and humidity. If one must live in Florida, it would behoove one to get and stay in as good of shape as possible.

One example, from AMA: Other factors that make a person susceptible to heat illness include older age, heart disease, other chronic diseases, sunburn, obesity, sleep deprivation, alcohol consumption, and certain medications.

There are many, many papers on this stuff.

I'm ready for a cool down. Much rather have upper 70's to mid 80's than 90+ with humidity. I didn't even have a AC when I attended school here. Now can't live without it. I think one thing that makes us miserable is that we work in a cool place and then when we want to go out to play the heat is a turn off. I've had cabin fever from snow and ice and the same from heat. In the same mid western state. The longevity of the hot summer makes it worse for me here in my home state. I still remember marching in the band for a Halloween parade in a wool uniform in S C FL. That didn't seem as hot to a teenager as it does to me now in a t-shirt and shorts... This is decades later and I feel it more I guess.

I know a few guys in excellent physical shape and they sweat more than anyone else. The killer here is nighttime temps. In much of the USA temps are cooler at night but in south Florida it's 80's from June-November. The rampant development and millions of air conditioners heat up the nights in Florida so it does feel hotter. As a kid in the 70's I remember it getting cool shortly after school started, in late September and cold fronts by October. In Miami-Dade county the insane residents make things worse by destroying any tree they can. The overabundant pavement and buildings hold heat all night and prolong the misery.

I couldn't handle heat and humidity when I was a kid. I spend most of my summers then in libraries where it was air conditioned. We didn't have it in our apartment back in the 1950s.

I still destest it. It was nothing to do with weight. I am 105 lbs. I spent all of my summer indoors, but now that school has started I have to be outside with the kids for recess and PE in this heat. The canopies over the playground broke with the winds from Fay, so there is no shade whatsoever in that playground. It is just horrible. I used to got outside with the kids in NY when the temps were in the 30s. I just put on more clothing. Never had a problem. In fact we kept the kids INSIDE in the gym when the heat index was over 95 degrees outside. lol Here it is ALWAYS over 95 degrees, yet these kids are out there running around. Some of their faces are beet red. One little boy who came from Michigan 3 years ago just finds a shady spot and just sits for all of recess. Smart kid.

No, I don't like the summers here, but I really hate the winters here MORE because I want it to be 20, 30, 40, 50 degrees, NOT 75 degrees. I want ice and snow. Winters in Florida sends me into depression.

The heat is fine, yes it`s hot but I am used to Florida summers But I do look forward to the Florida winters too.

The only complaint I have is fay killed all my garden plants, they all drown, peppers, tomatoes, not happy but will just start over thats the good thing about Florida you can pretty much plant things all year.

I love the humid nights it`s cool listening to all the frogs and crickets making noises.
