I agree with Honeycrisp.......It is best to rent in the area first, and check out the many nice 55+ communities in the area.
The Villages is a one of a kind place, and we like visiting there.......but it is not for everyone.
There are so many things to consider when buying in a 55+ community. CCD fees, HOA fees and conditions, the financial health of the development, building quality of homes, closeness to shopping, hospitals, etc, Pets, no pets, extent of rules, etc, do you want golf or not, nature trails, size of the communitiy, etc.......
There are many very good deals in some 55+ communities. There are many nice developments in the area, most are awesome, a very few scary, all with a few little differences.
It is almost like looking at a nice looking rack of shoes....all look nice, but one pair will just "feel right". Like shoes, you need to try them on and not commit from hundreds of miles away. I encourage folks to rent in the area for a month or more and check the whole area out.....if you rent "off season" rentals are easier to find, rents cheaper, traffic less without the snowbirds, and you can see if you really like the area. You get your best deals when you are there first hand.
I know what i'm talking about......we've been renting our home out to folks doing just that for the past few years, and will continue to do so until we are down there for good in 2 years.....can't wait!
