Default This Florida weather....

Okay, before moving here I was under the impression that Florida had great weather. Upon getting here I see it rains A LOT and I guess it rains even more in the summer. PLUS there are tornado warnings frequently. What is this? In Florida you have to worry about tornadoes all winter and hurricanes all summer and rain all the time?

I don't see how people think the weather here is so great. It's not....

At least back home (Las Vegas) I never had to worry about tornadoes, hurricanes and it barely ever rained! Home sweet home...

Most people in Florida are happy to see the cooler weather. Not me I like it to be 70 all the time. It never rains in Lakeland . WE are in drought over here.

RedWings,

It all really depends on where you live in Florida. Florida is a big state and the weather does vary quite a bit between Pensacola and Key West.

Where do you live?

Anyone who thinks Florida weather is always the same is in for a rude awakening. Two days ago, it was literally freezing in the morning in inland Okeechobee (where I'm working on my property). Yesterday, it was bright and sunny and really comfortable -- not cool, but not warm enough to sweat. This morning it's grey, overcast, looks like a gloomy Winter day I remember from up North, except that it's not cold (thank goodness). We do get hurricanes, but my area went 32 years without one. We do get tornadoes, but nothing worse than the tornadoes I saw growing up near Pittsburgh. We do get rain, but it's really just liquid sunshine. Thank goodness it rarely rains all day, let alone for several days in a row like I remember up North.

I remember owning 3 parkas and 3 pairs of outdoor shoes, so I could wear one dry set, have one set ready to change into, and have another set drying in front of a heater. I hope I never have to live like that again...

...on the other hand, the OP came from Las Vegas. I've never been there, but I understand the weather is boring. I think I like Florida better....

Trust me, I am finding that out. There is no consistancy. One day it's freezing and the very next day it's like 80! I don't get it.

I don't know about boring, I'd say it's predictable though! Sunny almost every day of the year. I like that... that's really the sunshine state, moreso than Florida. Plus you don't have to worry about losing your home to hurricanes, tornadoes, etc....

Thanks, I'm a big fan (and Michigan native). I know what you mean, some people get very upset if you say something negative about Florida. I guess I was supposed to wake up this morning, see the death and destruction and say "this IS paradise.??"
