Thank you all,
As I said before, I'm praying for all those impacted by this tragedy. I almost feel selfish even thinking about our own situation. That being said, I'm told by neighbors that our home is fine.....I believe Leesburg was spared, but it is a different world now just 10-15 miles north.

We will be driving through or around there Tuesday/Wednesday when we get there to the new house. Having to buy everything for it will be a big job, but at least it is there to fill.

The main two places we planned on buying the furniture is up in the Lady Lake area.....I do not even know if it is still there.....we may need to head south for consignment shops, more towards Orlando....one way or another, we will do it.....compared to those people who lost everything, our conserns are nothing.

I live in Eustis so the tornado was too close for comfort. I am going out today and investing in a weather radio. I am hearing the stories of those who took cover due to the alert from the radio. By the time my family woke up to the severe weather outside, the tornado was all the way to I4 in Deland. If it had passed 10 miles to the south, we would have been in the path and sound asleep. I remember the tornadoes of '98 and this is very similiar. If anyone is planning to move to Florida, think twice before buying an older mobile home. These are just not safe. Florida's weather will always be like this.

As to the weather radios......I talked to a new neighbor down there.....she wants to buy one also. I'm thinking that they may be hard to find now, since everyone is thinking the same thing.

May I suggest buying one online? It may be easier then running all over looking for one. They sound like a life saving idea.

Hi Frank
I think I will be able to find one. There are so many different kinds. I'll buy one online if I can't find one in the stores. Because ElNino is still with us, there may be more of these kind of storms yet to come. Don't let this kind of weather discourage you, esp. if you bought a newly built home with the hurricane building code standards. These are much safer than the mobile homes. BTW, there are so many furniture stores in Lake County out by the mall and south in Clermont, and even Orlando stores will deliver to Lake County. Good Luck with your move.

Frank, I'm so glad your new home was spared. It isn't selfish at all to be concerned that your home is still standing. And you don't need to eat any words because Fla. is still a nice state and it's the place you want to be. Like everyone else said, there are storms or earthquakes or floods any place and unfortunately it just happened to hit near your new area. The loss of life is what is so horrible about this.

Frank, glad to hear your home is OK. The area you bought is usually very safe, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I myself am in Dade City, and we are usually spared the more vicious weather as well. This is just one of those "off" years for the weather with El Nino and all. Good luck to you!

I just want to add that I too feel bad for all affected by the storms and I am also glad Frank's house was spared. I was mortified when I saw the news. This was just a horrible freak thing that happened. I think everyone needs a weather radio. I know I'm getting one now.

Hi, I am in pasco and was also checking on the radios.
amazon check out. also read reviews some people seem not to like too much.
some of them.
you can also check e opinions for advice. I just had channel 8 on and they also said we should have a radio.

radio shack usually has a good inventory and if they don't have them in stock, they can get them in a matter of days. I have two. One in the house and the other in the motorhome. Around $49 is the price for a decent one. it's called "Weather Radio" it's silent until there is a threat or a warning. Then it sounds an alarm. When you push the button for "Weather" the national weather service comes on and tells you what is going on.
