Teaching Jobs
I've spent my fair share of bashing the State, I've also admitted the good things. However, It's been about 8-10 years since I lived in Florida and was curious if some people could answer a few of my questions about teaching jobs in the state.
I am going back to school to get a BA in Elementary Education and was wondering what the job market in Florida looked like for teachers and what the typical salary is, experienced as well as starting.
Thanks.

I only know about my part of the state. Broward County just began it's hiring freeze and starting salaries are around 42k a year and peak at around 70k for experienced teachers.
If you want to be a teacher, look into North Carolina or Texas, where there is a lot of growth and salaries are just as good or better.

My wife and I are both going back to school. We're going to a C.C. here in TN and have UF as our top school to finish our degrees. She is studying to become a Pharmacist.
We both live in TN because it's affordable but from what you're telling me salary-wise, We would likley be making around atleast $125k per year. My biggest problems with Florida in the past were cost of living but I would think making that kind of money would at the least provide a comfortable lifestyle. I'm not really interested in N.C. and we were thinking about Texas but don't really believe in the lifestyle there.
Thanks for the reply !

Despite the incessant bitching, Florida has moderate to above average teacher salaries statewide, but no, you still won't do that much better than 100k combined in most places starting out (with an advanced degree). You would do about 5k better each in NC or TX, and the "real" salary boosts are up in the northeastern states where you can make around 100k a year as a teacher in SOME districts (others are worse than Florida). I think the highest salaries in Florida are in Sarasota or in South Florida, but don't quote me on that.
That being said, that is plenty of money to live just about anywhere in Florida.

It's $38,000 with a Bachelor's and $40,000 with a Masters in Collier. They don't have a hiring freeze on but all new hires will only get a contract for 1 year. There probably will be more cuts in the school budget next year, so that is in anticipation of them.

without any classrom experience. It increases a little over $1,000 per year of teaching experience (step increases), but I believe the OP was talking of going back to college, so I gave the absolute minimum salaries.
