Hi, my husband and I are now moving to southern Florida, previously we were moving to northern Florida. We have been looking online at Broward county? Is this very expensive to live in? Does anyone know of any counties around Ft Lauderdale/Miami that are affordable, low crime, low unemployment. We moved from Novi MI to Dallas TX last year (for my husbands work) and didn't do enough research and found ourselves living in a high crime area of Dallas. We don't want that to happen again in Florida! Appreciate the heads up!

You have two choices - Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) and look it up in your Google map and also search on the web for Florida counties which will provide you with a list of county maps. Miami-Dade County (Miami), Palm Beach County (Palm Beach) and so forth. There are affordable pockets in each county but that is realtive. What city state are you residing in now?

In terms of affordable counties near these areas requires a commute of 1 1/2 hours as the nearest lower cost county would be north of Palm Beach - Martin County is one and St. Lucie the next.

I have several friends who commute to Broward county who live in Ft. Pierce, in St Lucie countie - they commute just over 1 1/2 hrs. daily. See the property appraiser map: http://www.propertyappraiser.com/

"Affordability" and "near" are relative, so you have to provide more information on level of wealth, income and its source, reasons for wanting to be "near" Ft Lauderdale/Miami, mostly likely housing option, and life-style expectations in order to have more detailed answers.
