That's a definite consideration to be aware of.

Sinkholes.

Does anyone have a list of where/what cities they're often in?

Default places to look into during the summer months

someone suggested rosman or canton areas. i, this is just my opinion though --- take it with a grain of salt --- would not suggest living in rosman to my worst enemy. when i say it is the pits, it is!!! the racism issue, when i visited there, was absolutely horrible. there is NOTHING to do there.

i will probably get a complaint or another "Red Dot" next to my name on this forum, but i feel pretty strongly about things at times, and i dont hold back. sorry. but rosman is no good. period.

on a lighter note, canton........ how can i say this w/o getting yet ANOTHER red dot next to my name........ it smells like poo-poo. there is a plant there and it absoltely reeks there.

to change the subject, i waouldnt say that asheville or other areas of wnc are unfriendly, in fact, some parts are wuite friendly. i just said that some parts are very transient --- hardly meet some ppl that were actually born and raised in nc. there are some, but not as many as there used to be. now, the thing about the sexual offenders is a little scary. we have 136 in our zipcode. so i'd say those ppl are most certainly unfriendly. and need prison time... with no release date. period.

I don't have a list of cities but Spring Hill in Hernando County supposedly has a lot of problems with sinkholes. I was told that Spring Hill has made the news quite a bit due to sinkholes. When I was looking at properties online, I came across several that had sometype of transferable, lifetime warranty for sinkhole repair that had been done to the home. I think all areas are subject to sinkholes but some more than others. Of course, the media may contribute to making some areas seem a little worse than what they really are.

You won't get any negative rep points from me. I only like to spread positive points. As we don't really know the person posting on the other end and it is easy to misconstrue typed words, I do not take anything anyone says on a message forum too personally (unless of course, there is no other way to take it - which may happen from time to time). Besides, why should you be given negative rep for your personal opinion?

My mention of Rosman was that I had lived there before, as a child. We moved there from Miami. This should have been culture shock but it was not. I loved it. It was a great place to grow up. We lived there about 5 years before moving to Hendersonville. Also another great place to grow up. If you have children and are looking for a safe and secure place to raise them, it can be accomplished in this area. As a child, I didn't mind Rosman not having much to do. What we did was play outside all day. We went fishing, biking, hiking and went inner (sp?) tubing down the Broad River. In the winter we went sled riding and played in the snow. It was great, clean fun. We didn't spend all day in front of the TV, we didn't play video games (Atari was just coming out at the time so it really wasn't popular yet), etc. We palyed! We would go out in the morning and go in in the evening and our parents never worried about us. This is the kind of childhood I wanted for my daughter which prompted my husband and I to move from Houston to Kentucky. Having lived in Houston his entire life, my husband had problems adjusting but I did not (it took about a year to adjust, get truly settled, and secure some good friends) and our daughter did not. Of course, now that we are having to move to the Tampa area, my husband has come to realize just how much he appreciates small town life in KY.

I like to be able to go shopping and eat out, etc. but when I go home - I want home to be away from everything, a retreat from the world.

As for Canton, I do not remember it smelling. Maybe it didn't then, or maybe I just do not recall it.

Any way, if someone is looking for a place to get away from the hurricanes, Western NC is a good place. If you get the right property, you could rent it as a vacation rental when you are not using it. Another area to check out is Sylva.

Just wanted to mention that most states have a s*x offender registry that is free to search. The website for Florida's database is www.fdle.state.fl.us/
You can search by name, address, city, zip and county. It will give you a picture and the name and address of the offender. I like this search database better than some of the others because all of the info is free.

Hi,

We may have just what you are looking for, unfortunatley we will be relocating to Atlanta due to work. We have lived in Wesley Chapel for 7 years and absolutely love it. We just finished adding a pool to the house and now have to move . The schools in the area are all "A" rated schools. We live in Pasco County on 1 acre plenty of play area! Great neighbours and neighborhood lots of trees and deer yet only 30mins to downtown!

Best of luck , Marty and Michelle.

I have lived in the Tampa/Clearwater and Ft Lauderdale areas and now live in the Ocala area. This area is growing but still has the country charm and housing (and taxes) is still pretty reasonable. You want to check on the schools though, there are schools from A grades to F. You want to check out Marion County but stay away from just outside of downtown areas and the Ocala National forest areas. Gainesville area is nice too.
