Just "cheap".... or do you need a place where there are career possibilities, etc.?

Well, in Southern Florida there's Port St. Lucie.... lots of homes on the market, car insurance, etc. is less than places further South.

Also, as a rule, Northern Florida is usually cheaper than Southern Florida.

I'll add that Northern Florida, in comparison to Southern Florida, maybe be cheaper, but it's not really cheap here anymore . At least, not near the coast of NEFL. Now if someone wanted to move into Central North Florida, you might find some bargains, but you have to really go "central" - at least a few counties in from the coast. Oh, and it will be rural - no real jobs to speak of.

With the economy as it is, I would not move to Florida without a plan and without some real research, it's not as easy to relocate here as it once was .

You can pick up a 3/2/2, newer home in North Port for under $100K. It's located on the gulfside below Sarasota and above Ft Myers. So, I guess compared to most areas in Florida North Port would be considered cheap. There are many newer homes that can be rented for under $900.

What are you doing for employment?

VERY affordable living/housing to the west of Ocala in Gilchrist County , as well as in the Panhandle ... particularly Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and northern Escambia counties.

PSL would be a good pick, it's not too far from a larger city (West Palm). There are a lot of forclosures in the area right now, but as everywhere else, the job market isn't good.
