Beckycat,
I can't believe you said pork roll !!
I loved it as a kid,and recently thought about it. i researched it and found it is a N.J. food.....also known as Taylor Ham. You can buy it online, but when I read that it was a N.J. thing, I called my neighbor in Florida who is from NJ to ask her about it.
She told me you can buy it at the local Publix.......I'm back down in Florida in 2 weeks and can't wait!!! I sure hope she is right!!

No Tastykakes in Florida? That could be a problem.

My husband is from Queens. I am from Manhattan. We both always had it as kids. I have bought it in supermarkets in both Queens and LI not long ago. Actually, I have even gotten it sliced fresh at the deli section of supermarkets on LI, not just the packaged Taylor Ham. My husband likes it fried on white bread with mustard.
I think the reason it is not very well know is because it is probably very high in cholestrol and not exactly very good for you.
But for my generation, (60), we thrived on as kids.

I just thought of 2 things I can't get here in FL.
1. Chicken Croquettes!!!! I love those, but they are NOWHERE down here.
2. Fish cakes!!! They are made of cod and a bread mixture, no way in 15 years have I seen them either.

You're kidding! Chicken croquettes are EVERYWHERE here - you are talking about the Spanish kind?
Can't help you with the fish cakes, however, but I bet there is SOME place that has those!

No, not those frozen really nasty ones in Publix . I tried them, gross...
These are usually in diners up north, they are in a shape like, well... you know the purple guy "the grimace" at Mcdonalds? ***SEE PIC BELOW*** They are shaped like him..LOL!!! Triangular shape, served with mashed potatoes, and gravy on top.
Fish cakes are not in Florida anywhere, I looked in every town/city I lived from coast to coast. They are a New England thing. I miss them!!!
