I miss Clam cakes in Rhode Island!!!
And I agree Maine lobsters are the best.
Although you could get some good cold water lobsters in Rhode Island also.

There are a few items that you may not find in the grocery stores, but not much. I can't find scrapple, but then I'm ok with that.
The seafood issue is really a matter of if you get your seafood from the chain grocery store or go directly to the source. When I was in Naples I went to Goodland and Everglades City to buy fresh caught fish, crabs, shellfish, and shrimp.
Now I go to Placida and buy from Miss Cindy's.
It's nice to know that the grouper, snapper and shrimp have never been frozen. Clams are harvested from "farms" located right here in Gasparilla sound.
Oysters are better if they come from the Chesapeake Bay, but the Apalachicola oysters aren't bad.

Flounder and Dover Sole. If and when I can get them, they are about $15/lb. and horrible, probably prevously frozen, as they like to say. The gulf shrimp is good, but you get tired of just eating shrimp. We used to buy talapia until we watched something on the Discovery Channel and learned that talapia is used to clean up the waste products of farmed Bass. No more talapia for us.

I've never lived in another state. We just bought a house in PSL so that's going to change soon.
I have lived in a couple of foreign countries though. The things I missed the most then was white sandwich bread and saltine crackers. I know I won't have any problems in FL with these items.

The biggest problem you will have is that your saltines will become stale even if you don't open them. So don't stock up.

Hi FlBob and thanks for the cracker tip. I wonder if you could store them in the freezer to prevent them getting funky?

Once I open crackers I put them into the fridge, I've also switched to things like Mary's Gone crackers which never go stale.

Thats horrible, at least Orlando has some pizza places owned by people from New York and New Jersey that are open for lunch.
