The young developer that first started that community used to own Car-a-mat car washes. That was how he made his fortune. So when he started the community he simply spelled Car-a-mat backwards. Tamarac.

Hmmm...that's a good question...was the tomatoe named after the town or the town named after the tomatoe?
I think you get the points for that one. I was thinking of Spuds- outside of Hastings- outside of Jacksonville!
And I live in a fruit- Mandarin.
jg- I will be nominating you for the Florida historian of city data!

It's the city I'm moving to next month. Pensacola
Spanish, British, French, Confederate, and of course, the United States.
That's because at one time or another, it fell under the rule of each of those flags.

Alright! You win the prize, (whatever that might be ). What brings you to Pensacola? Family, job, or just a change of pace, if you don't mind my asking? Hope you like it here!
HEREINFLA, St. Augustine is the oldest continually inhabited city in Florida. Pensacola was actually settled first, though, by the Spaniards. However, hurricanes eventually drove them out. It was a few years before they came back, and, if I remember my history correctly, St. Augustine was, by that time, already established.
And, the only flag you were missing was the French flag. Pretty good, for living in Jacksonville.

I was offered a job at NAS. I'm a civilian but was offered a position teaching electronics and hydraulics in a Military school on the base.
I've been to Pensacola many times so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm getting in to. I'll be coming down in a 37 ft Motor Home. right now I'm researching RV spaces. It's the middle of the winter so there are a lot of them that are pretty full with snowbirds. But I'll find one. Might have to live in one until the desired one has a space opening.

Wow, I just noticed that you are from WY! Small world. Although I've lived in NW Florida for 26 years, I am from WY, originally. Actually grew up in two areas. South of Jackson Hole, in Star Valley; and in Pavillion, which is kind of in the middle of the state, on the Wind River Reservation. I've been to Sheridan a few times. Is this just a temporary thing for you and then back to WY? Boy! What I wouldn't give to do some flyfishing in WY, again! Go Cowboys!
