NOTHING TO DO IN PERRY BUT HANG OUT @ WALMART! The school system is a joke, way behind any school.Don't think so? Just talk to the locals and here how they talk or pick up the Taco Times/Perry Newsherald and see for yourself. They built a new hospital( don't know why) that the county can't afford. You still have to go to Tallahassee for any treatment. They do have a 3 screen movie thearte in which the owner does a good job bringing first run movies.nothing fancy or no surround sound the owner does a good job. I'm glad I moves away 29 yrs ago and never would leave Arlington, VA for Perry. When I do visit my wife and kids are ready to leave 2 days after we arrived. Don't miss the sand or stinking smell of rotten eggs from a papermill.

I agree! Do not move her and do not enroll your kids in the local school unless you hate your kids.

But I can't fault anyone for wanting to live in Perry if they've never been anywhere. You can't miss what you've never had. Can you believe there are people, grown people in Perry that's never been on a vacation. Better yet, some has never gone any further than Tallahassee or Valdosta. And that was to go shopping or go to dinner because you sure can't do in perry. Come on perry Residents, let's teach the kids something other than how to have babbies and sell dope. I thank God my parents got us out before it was too late. My brothers could be selling dope and have a prison rap sheet and I could have 6 baby daddy's. Thank God somebody was thinking 27 years old.....

Are there any rentals available in Perry or surrounding areas? Something kind of cheap?

I've traveled through Perry once with my RV years ago. The road we took was very narrow (scary in RV) and the tide was high; swamp look. My overall impression was before the main I-10 interstate was completed, the roads leading to and from Perry was a blooming Mom and Pop shop empire along the highway and, probably before Wally-World moved in. I remember seeing old used-to-be-businesses and now abandoned buildings like ghost town.
Again, this was my first impression and I never went back.

I must be fair though, the comment above is my thoughts and my opinion. I'm 44 and raising kids. You're mid 50's and probably not raising kids. So Here.....
It all depends on what you're looking for and what you're used to. If you used to just sitting around the house enjoying the outdoors you'll probably be ok. On the other hand if you're used to shopping malls and dinners, you just maybe a little disappointed. No malls or restarants. you must travel about an hours to shop and enjoy a nice evening out. Nothing but WALMART. The crime seems to be magnified since the town is so small but I'm not sure what the crime factor is in your community. It does seem kinda at a high point this summer though. Some have thought that it might be due to kids being out of school, but I don't really know. May be just a sign of the times. For the most part I think it's rather friendly. Oh you could get a 6 month subscription to the newspaper and I'm sure that will help in your decision making or better yet, Why don't you try visiting in October when they have the Festival, that's really the only event you'll have to look forward to.... Good luck
