It's probably not worthwhile to worry too much about threads. Just type something that goes with the flow of the conversation when you've got something to say, and don't type something otherwise.

Rollin Rollin Rollin..Keep Those Payloaders....Rollin
Ah...I love the sight going on back of the Botanical Gardens here in Naples. Now lets see are they going to carve a four lane from Publix and have it meet up with Bayshore at the very far end? One big ole circle that would be cool. A friend of mine tells me that her property is located on the 18th hole, on one of the plans she seen. Wow another golf course. They just never lack for imagination. Bring out the Kool-Aid. Then I get a form letter from our county officials, calling a town meeting on the noise level that might occur from the new Tashmahal....Opps marina that was just built, will have live entertainment. Is that called buttering up????? Should I feel honored that this group all of a sudden cares about how the noise level effects me??? Just keep your necks cranked to the left guys, because I'm sure you have.... Give me a decent offer on my place and I'm outta here. All the unhappiness seems to just fade away when I see another big ole crane.

I respectfully disagree. You cannot make a sweeping statement like that.
This is NOT my viewpoint, and I know countless others who would also disagree. If you are young and starting out, one could perhaps feel this way, but for MILLIONS of older people, those retired or near retirement, Florida looks great!
Look at The Villages......it's not for everyone, but those who live there LOVE it. They are growing by 200 homes per month.
Everyone has a right to their opinion, but for many who have invested well and have a good pension, Florida looks like a great place to spend the rest of their lives.
I for one have lived in NY for most all of my life......I'm tired of the snow and the killer taxes, and look forward to my new life in Florida.....and I know many others who feel the same. I know this thread is for the UNHAPPY ones in Florida, and that is fine, but when I see misleading statements like that, I need to respond.

He came to me last year and just starting talking about how much he missed Michigan and playing in the Fall leaves and sledding down snow covered hills. He told me he didn't like going to the beach and getting sunburn. Davey visits his grandparents in Michigan every Christmas break and comes back ever more depressed. They come here to visit, but only in the summer. It seems they have no desire to move to Florida.
Having raised my own family, I can just imagine how you must feel. I can tell you that I would have begged on the streets before I moved here with kids. I nixed a moved to Texas when my husband was offered a transfer when my kids were little. I would have done the same with a move to Florida. I know people say that kids will adjust, but apparently that isn't always true.

I understand why he feels so sad. It's the death of an important part of his life, the death of the little world he had that he can never get back. Even if he grows up and returns home, he'll see that life indeed went on without him, and that not everything is as it once was.
Moved here when I was the age he is now. I cried for days and days, both before and after the move. From the very beginning I lived in a permanent daze, as if in a bad dream, almost detached from reality. Then, when I got a little older, the sun slowly began to rise. The beautiful horizon came into view, and I could see past my situation, far beyond the border of Florida.
I am glad you're there for Davey, even if he doesn't know how you feel.

My husband constantly complains how long it takes for road construction here. How long did it take to built just that overpass at Golden Gate?
Contrast that with the bridge that collasped in Minnesota. I believe it was under a year. It also true on LI. They added two lanes in each direction on the LIE, much, much farther mileage than anything here. It took maybe two years? Plus you have to add the weather factor into it in Minnesota and New York. Construction has to stop for several months due to freezing and snow. Yet, it takes years in Florida to complete construction which is worked on for 12 months out of the year.
Frankly, I think it all has to do with WHO is working the construction. Up north they are paid union wages. You have professionals doing this state construction. As an aside, I have seen a lot of WOMEN on those crews in NY also. Who and what do they get paid here? As just an example, my husband's nephew is a master plumber who works for the RR, and does free lance on the side. Five years ago, he was making $45/hour at just his RR job.
There's a old saying. You get what you are willing to pay for.

Hi TANaples,
This project in back of Botanical Gardens is Kraft. I never seen anything like it. Little over a mile long and maybe 3 miles deep just bulldozed down the woods in the last 3 months. They have two trailers set up for engineers. Then payloaders, at least 2 big cranes, bulldozers. In time we might just see the new marina. It is big and beautiful, you can see from Danford St. going to Bayshore Park. To expensive for our taste buds. When it comes to the widening of Bayshore at our end and if they go ahead with connecting with the streets over by Publix and that shopping complex; will be another matter. Then were dealing with Collier Co.. I know what you mean about Golden Gate. Here in east Naples they blotched a job on the street by Stergen Park across from Walgreens. When you make a right hand turn your just about straddling the little median strip they have, then really cut your car to stay on your side of the street. They did no widening at all and it's a mess.
