I have always wanted to live in Florida first it was Miami, then Naples now I even think about Daytona Beach.
Has anyone lived in Daytona Beach or know someone that does? I wonder if there is a way to make a living since it seems to be more of a tourist city. When there aren't any tourist around what is life like fun, boring etc? Are you better off owning a business or are there jobs available? I know a lot of questions but any help is appreciated. Thanks

South Beach is just as what its set out to be. Its a city. On the beach. enough said. seriously. Tons of tourists. Tons of stores. condominiums literaly on the beach.
And theres always jobs available. for god sakes its a city.
oh and you can seriously do both. own and work for business it depends on what you want to do.

I live in the Daytona Beach area, but have nothing to which to compare it because I have lived here all of my life. I do know that depending upon where you live now, you will probably have to settle for a lower salary at whatever job you do. Keep in mind though too that the cost of living is lower as well and there are no state taxes in FL. This is the perfect place for us. DH and I both work for the school system so we are not totally dependant on tourism and we love the beach in the summer, as do our kids. If you love Nascar this is the perfect place for you. We don't have as much as our closest large cities, Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa, but we do have museums, a great minor league baseball park, a nice mall, lots of restaurants, night clubs and shopping areas and of course our beautiful beach, on which you can drive your car! We are an hour away from Disney and Sea World, The Orlando Magic and Universal, the space center and some nice zoos, two hours away from the Busch Gardens the Tampa Bay Bucs, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Jacksonville Jaguars. During certain times of year, such as race weeks, bike week and college spring break it gets pretty crowded, but you learn which areas to avoid at which times. I wouldn't move here without securing a job first, but if you can do that and the pay is acceptable to you, go for it!

Nancy

Most of Miami is NOT safe. There have been takeover robberies of restaurants downtown, a man got kidnapped from an ATM in broad daylight. I wouldn't live their alone if I were a women. I wouldn't go out alone after dark without being armed.
