Default Vacationing in Key West

We will be down vacationing in Key West next week. We have gone there many times and enjoyed some great local dinners. Are there any good restaurants that you have gone to down there that won't cost $100 per person for dinner? Thank you in advance. kelsie

You have to eat at Pepe's Cafe at 8606 Caroline Street - the oldest restaurant in Key West. Don't be put off by the outside - remember - you're in Key West. We ate in the courtyard next to a bouganvilla and under a crystal chandelier. The food was great and you get a ton of it. When I was there the guys ordered steak smothered with pork chops - an almost obscenely huge portion of food, and the girls ordered the fish of the day - a much more reasonable portion and absolutely delicious.

At least go for breakfast if nothing else.

But there are plenty of restaurants on Duvall Street if you'd rather stick with something a little more mainstream.

Try Blue Heaven. Every one says this is the place to go for the most fabulous breakfast but their dinner is really really good too. Not too expensive either. I reccommend the yellowtail snapper, its the best!

We like Jack Flats on Duval, its more a bar kind of place, but the food isn't, it's very good.

I was going to say Pepe's too - it truly was our favorite place in Key West. GREAT food, super low prices, and really amazing margaritas! Fun crowd, too, more locals than your average Duval place.

Blue Heaven has wonderful food, menu is a little fancier than Pepe's, but for us it was a little expensive and there was always a really long wait. Worth the wait and the price for sure, but know what you're getting into.

We haven't been in a few years, but Turtle Kraals used to have excellent food too. Crab cakes with mango salsa stand out in my memory, yum yum.

Another one of our favorite haunts was Schooner Wharf, but in all honesty I can't remember what/if we ever ate there. Spent plenty of time at the bar though! So fun!!!
